Sherwood has very nice greens. They are smooth and fast and they roll true. The fairways are in good shape too. Most of the time the lies are very playable. There are quite a few water holes, especially on the back nine. Hole 14 is a par five where you have decide whether to lay up on your second shot or try and get over the river in two. The risk-reward factor can make it a difficult decision. Hole 17 is a tough par three with a pond right in front of the green. The hole is about 165 yards from the white tees and the tee shot can be challenging. All in all it’s a great golf course in a beauti…

I love this course. This is my home course and the staff is amazing they have the newest clubs to use and test out. The older white gentleman who I believe is the manger of the place is amazing has always made me feel at home. There’s a putting, chipping, and driving range. The 18 is amazing and green. The bad reviews will come from the greens. They have been in bad shape as of late but I was notified that there is a new greens keeper and that things are about to turn around. Other than that this place maybe one of the nicest courses in the 559. I love the flowing river that goes through the c…

Players beware: We played yesterday and found that the current green conditions are extremely bad. We have played here many times over the years, and this is the worst I’ve ever seen it on this course. Almost every green we played on was full of weeds and patches of dirt. The staff did warn us when we arrived that the greens were bad and they had some kind of disease, but I feel it should have also been noted on their website and/or when you book your tee times over the phone. The playing conditions are definitely not worth paying the full price of $55 and should be reduced for players if you…

My recent experience at this course was disappointing. Tee time management was poor, with unexpected group congestion after they said it was relatively free. Maintenance staff lacked etiquette, disrupting play with running machinery. The greens are in a cycle of good and bad condition, resembling sand greens at their worst, yet no efforts are ever offered. Their needs to be Marshall’s out as well slow play is hindered by egotistical golfers who don’t allow smaller groups to play through.

Played here yesterday and no one gave us a heads up that the greens were in terrible shape. We were putting over dirt patches and weeds. They had an opportunity to tell me when I called for a tee time and when I was paying my green fees. I’d say 15/18 holes were in terrible condition. See picture of Hole 7 when we were trying out best to putt.

Edited 12-29-25. I have to eat my words and I'm happy to say it. The review written below was accurate for the time but highly inaccurate now. The greens are greener than that top shelf green. No more playing in the desert! All jokes aside, these greens look nicer than ridge Creek, they aren't all darted up. Not sure if it's the greens keepers or the players that play here but I'm all for it. Fix those marks! They stepped up their golf cart game too, which wasn't even necessary but that's how they're moving now. Above and beyond in terms of how nice the course is for a public course. The pro s…

Only played front 9...at least 4 greens had cancer... Lots of trees and shade. No gps carts. If you miss fairways you'll score high. Not sure of back 9... Driving range was a lil beat up. Maybe call ahead and ask about conditions if these things are going to bother you.

Booked on Golf Now and just like every other time I book on Golf Now I was given the cold shoulder. This time there were 3 greens under repair so we found a pin in the middle of the half dirt half crabgrass fairway with ABSOLUTELY NO HEADS UP. Paid full price and only played 15 true holes. That’s a loose 15 since only 2 greens were in somewhat good shape to putt on. I would absolutely advise against playing at Sherwood anytime soon.

This is a jewel for public golf course. It's always in the shade, along a river, and quite cooler than other courses closer to Fresno. Course is improving as the greens are coming back. They aren't perfect, but way better than the end of summer. Fairways were green and easy to hit from. Food is VERY good, so plan to hit it by the turn. Greens fees on the weekend are relatively low for Fresno.

The course is a treat to play! Beautiful trees, lots of wildlife, interesting water features, good greens and it feels like a golf club... It's a great place to be a golfer.

UPDATE: a year later and I’m upping my score to a 4 star review. My son and I golfed there today. All issue with the greens have been resolved. But the fairways now need some work. They’re too thick and patchy. Lost if varieties of weeds (I.e.: clover). I’d like it more if they were closer to Dinuba fairways. The carts are newer and a lot nicer than before. The carts do lack the more modern gps screens found on more updated carts, but that’s a luxury easily adapted to with a smartphone. Not that big of a deal. Overall, a big improvement from my previous experience Golfed there today. Normally…
