In summary

Rackham Golf Course, a historic Donald Ross design, is appreciated for its enjoyable layout and accommodating staff, with many noting improvements in course conditions under new management. However, some visitors express dissatisfaction with the pace of play, often citing overcrowding and management of tee times as areas needing improvement. Additionally, the course's sand traps and lack of alcohol sales are mentioned as drawbacks by some players.

Overall, I like the course. It’s long so you have to hit the ball well, which I like. The greens are pretty big and challenging. However, if you get into a sand trap, they are terrible and need to have sand added, as they are hard packed mud pits. I would rate the course higher if the sand traps were improved! ⛳️

I have played at Rackham for several years and it is in the best condition it has been in for a long time. The greens are great. Do not be in a hurry. The course gets a lot of play, between leagues and regular golfers. Bring a snack and you favorite beverage and enjoy.

This is a great old school golf course in a relatively urban setting. It isn’t the longest or most difficult course, but it’s enjoyable and the staff is accommodating. Remember, this is a 100 year old municipal course that caters to all types of skill levels and cannot serve alcohol because if deed restrictions. Adjust your expectations accordingly. Pace of play us typically very good, but it is a busy course. The new management company has really improved the facility. Rackham was in better shape this year than some of the very expensive places I’ve played. It’s also my 9 year old’s favorit…

Pretty straight forward golf course. Most of the holes are straight. Not a lot of fancy stuff as far as hazards. No major water hazards. The biggest drawback of this course is that its a dry course. So you cant buy any beer or drinks here. Otherwise its a decent track. Decently maintained. And there's a zoo next door. 😂

Iv been waiting to post this review because I wanted to really reflect on the experience. The ONLY reason I’m giving it three stars and not less is because the staff was kind and listened to our concerns. Iv only been playing for a year but I try to make it a point to play a different course every time. As you read in previous reviews the pace isn’t the best. We did get paired with two other guys but they were cool and I don’t really mind meeting new people. The worst part of the whole experience had nothing to do with the course, but the players behind us. On the 18th hole the couple behind u…

Oct 10th - paid summer rate in mid-October ($60) and quit after 12 holes and 3 1/2 hours of absurdity slow pace vs Oct 14th $36 at Links of Novi and finished 18 holes in 4hrs flat. I only play Rackham and stack em because it’s 1/4 mile from my house but at those rates and with no ranger to speed up play in comparison to real golf courses I won’t be playing here again.

We played here during the week and it was awesome! It wasn't too busy, we could golf at our own pace. This is a classic Donald Ross course. Strategically placed hazards, gave me some challenges. Not to mention a few balls that went missing in the rough. The course was in good shape for the fall. It was easily accessible, plenty of parking. Enjoy!

What a fall from grace Rackham has had, even more depressing to realize the course essentially clawed it’s way back from being a useless money pit for the longest time. Long story short, do NOT waste your money with these clowns. Rackham had a few good years around 2015-2019 with a competent grounds crew and GM, but after the firing of the head grounds keeper it has noticeably sunk back to being the joke of a course it once was. GM doesn’t care to hire competent crews or Marshall’s anymore so you’re left with a course that consists of wildly under maintained greens, fairways that are 75% dirt…

This course was overall amazing. It was very fun to play and the staff was outgoing. The greens were very well kept however challenging for a beginner like myself. However this cant be a 5 star course, given that there were ground bees swarming in the sand trap right next to the green on the first hole. Some parts of the course had areas with rock solid dirt, almost impossible to hit off of. Pace of play was a little slow for a weekday morning taking just over 5 hours for 18 holes. Overall though I had a great time and hope to come back.

Rackham is a beautiful course and an awesome Donald Ross design. But this course is unplayable 6 days a week (Mon-Sat)because management has too many Golf leagues scheduled and they over book the course which results in 5-10 minute wait times at every hole. Played on a Wednesday at 4:30 and I had to quit 4 holes in because there were two groups on every hole. The only reasonable “good” day to play is Sunday after the morning crowd has left. Management seriously needs to understand that you need to spread out the tee times a lot more here. I’m tired of having a wait at almost every hole during…

It gets three stars primarily due to the history and general conditions for a muni. The staff are also very understanding and accommodating when it comes to complaints - which really only come from pace of play issues ultimately coming from tee time and general pace of play management from rangers. For example today I booked a single tee time on top of another twosome, show up 15 minutes early and can’t find the ranger. Walk up to the tee and ask everyone around if they have the same tee time as me, nope so I’m on the tee warming up 4 minutes before my tee time and there’s another single out i…

A Donald Ross designed golf course next to the Detroit zoo that opened to the public in 1925. Undulating greens encourage keen eye to read the break to score well and not have those annoying three putts on the card. Always look forward to playing there.
