In summary

Red Fox Country Club is praised for its scenic and challenging layout, with well-maintained fairways and greens that offer a good golfing experience at a reasonable price. The staff is generally regarded as friendly, and the course is noted for its beautiful setting. However, some visitors have pointed out issues with the sand traps, cart paths, and overall maintenance, as well as a lack of amenities like a clubhouse or restaurant. The course's financial struggles and ownership disputes have also been highlighted, impacting its upkeep and future prospects.

This is a really nice course. Scenic, a nice variety of holes, overall good condition. Greens are very good but just a little slow. Certainly one of the better courses in the area. Cart paths are a little rough in spots. I will absolutely be back. Don't know why it is not better known. Perhaps a better job of marketing?

4 etc While home for Christmas and New Years, my brother and I played here. The course was in generally excellent condition (given that it was winter and Bermuda grass). The only other issues I noticed were a few of the traps were donations the red clay base with no sand to cover. On some holes, one or two trap(s) would be mud and the remaining would be beautiful white beach sand. All in all, this was a great day on the links.

One of the best designed coursus I have played. Fairways and greens are excellent condition. Sand traps need more sand so I stayed out of them. Rough is pretty good but not US Open condition like they were in the '60s.

Best golf course in the Tryon Area. There are several others in the area, but Red Fox is hands down more challenging and also the best value. It has been for sale for several years, and is starting to show a little wear, but the grounds staff does an amazing job keeping the course up despite the droughts of the last two years. We try to other courses, but always come back here due to the challenge. Lots of water and good variety of scenic holes throughout the course. Highly recommended.

I use the Driving Range at the course .ore than the course itself. At one time this was a rare gem that was used on the junior tour and in OF A qualifying events. Has fallen on more difficult times now in the past 20 years. Still has a nice layout and eye appeal on many holes. Present owner has not put the funds in it to keep the course and amenities up to what they should be though. Clubhouse was destroyed in a fire approximately 5 years ago and has only been cleared not rebuilt. The homes on the fairways are well kept though unfortunately the course has not been given the TLC that it deserve…

Actually a beautiful, hilly course. A hidden gem. Fairways and greens are in great shape, but, unfortunately, they don't have finances to repair any of the bunkers. No restaurant, but drinks and prepackaged sandwiches are available in the pro shop. Still, it's a great bargain.

As their website will inform you, Gold Digest named this Ellis Maples design course among the top 100 courses in America 3 years running. Unfortunately, this was over 30 years ago. In the decades since, this course has devolved into a near goat track. The tee boxes and fairways are a mess. The greens & fringe are patchy. The rough-areas are unkept. And, the bunkers are filled with ground-up red clay and rock (seriously). The only reasons to play this course are: 1) the green fees ($35 AM weekend rate); 2) the friendly clubhouse staff; and 3) the faded remnants of a classic Ellis Maples layout.…

Worst place ever, I will never go back, worst cutomer service I have ever experienced and I have played golf over 100 times a year for the last 30 years, all over the world. I know this time of year golf courses airify their greens, the thing is the pro shop should tell you when they make a tee time. Went, paid our fee and were never told by the man in the pro shop that the greens had been airified. After the second hole we decided to ask for a rain check and come back in a couple of weeks. We were told and I quote "that is the risk you take when you come to a golf course" and would not give u…
