In summary

Sound of Freedom Golf Course is appreciated for its scenic layout, friendly staff, and reasonable pricing, particularly for military personnel and veterans. Many visitors highlight the course's enjoyable design and the welcoming atmosphere. However, there are consistent criticisms regarding the condition of the greens and maintenance issues, with some noting that improvements have been slow.

You are missing out if you’re not playing here this fall! There are still a few tee boxes and greens that are bouncing back, but overall the grounds crew have done a fantastic job bringing the entire course back to life. We’ve played here several times in the past few weeks and the course gets better every trip.

I mean 30 bucks for 18 while walking is pretty decent. Haven't been back in about a year, conditions havent improved, if anything they've got worse. Greens nearly impossible to putt and aim properly due to bumps, different types of grass and just poor maintenance. Avoid.

Update: still dead greens, not worth the price. Could be a lot better if they fixed the greens. See pics. Go 10min down the road to other courses that are better for close to the same price. I’ll never play there again if I’m paying or driving. Most greens were partially scalped with deep lines like a bad fade, pins haven’t been moved in a week or more. Bunkers aren’t even close to being the same throughout the course. The one on 17 left of the green had maybe an inch, if that, much dirt before hitting what felt like concrete. Tee boxes were almost as long as the rough and beat up pretty bad.

Played in beginning of March and this courses tee boxes are 70% dirt and spotty grass and the green are the worst i have literally ever experienced. There were 5 holes i couldn't even attempt a putt because of the massive weeds all over the green.

The course is beautiful and so much fun to play! I took my dad for a Father’s Day present, because he used to play there with his dad growing up, and I enjoyed the scenery while easily maneuvering the cart track. Though I don’t golf, my dad said it is one of the best courses! Not only is this golf course beautiful and fun to play, but the people who work here and the people who are members are phenomenal! After a fun round of 18 with my dad, we found out that our car was not working. Every single member stopped to ask if they could help and the people in the clubhouse were so friendly and offe…

I can’t speak on the condition it was in the past but I had heard it wasn’t the greatest. However when I played it, it was in amazing shape. Lots of hills which you wouldn’t expect for a course right on the water. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Cost is very good compared to other courses in the area at 35$ on a weekday (cost is dependent on military rank). If you’re in the military or a veteran and want a good course to play, go to the Sound of Freedom at Cherry Point.

have a flyer from 2011. back then they went by rank structure on pricing. retirees must have fell under "guess rates". which was ok, until tacking on green and cart fees. best deal was walking. push carts rentals acceptable. we were a walk in, so didn't know an event was going on. so, the experience wasn't pleasurable. i don't remember any mountains higher than an ant hill the length of the course. they didn't have any twilight rates or health initiative rates where you walk 9 for 9. presently were i am now it's 10 for 9 and you can walk all day for 15. the back 9 is separated by a highway. we…

Course is in fair shape, but maintenance and and improvements are slow coming, mainly due to budget constraints. A new golf pro has taken charge and made big improvements. The below average rating is due to exceptionally poor post round gathering place. An attempt was made to use mens/ladies locker rooms as a post round gathering room. Old dilapidated furniture was installed, two tv's in mens room, only one works. This was a poor decision on the part of the over all Director of recreation facilities on base. Easy answer to becoming a five star facility; reopen the upstairs former lounge area.

Cant beat the rates, and the course is in great shape. Staff is okay, they cater more to retirees and senior citizens. Apparently alot of former pros play there based on their approach to new players and people trying to learn. Brush up on your rules and etiquitte prior to your tee time to be safe, other players like to take pictures during your round and report you, especially the older players they will make sure to waste your time explaining the game of golf to you and then report you for your pace of play. Also the driving range is very reasonable. $3 for 60 balls is awesome.

This course has so many good deals for the public; Yes the public; they have forms you can fill out and turn in at the base so you can get passes on to play the course; Also afternoon golf packages that are Very reasonable to down right cheap. Unlimited golf in afternoon after like 2pm; well maintained and the Proshop personnel are the best!!
