What People Say

In summary

Summerlea Golf Course is highly praised as a picturesque venue for weddings, with beautiful landscapes and attentive staff contributing to memorable events. However, the golf course itself receives mixed feedback, with some visitors appreciating its affordability and scenic views, while others criticize the maintenance of the course, particularly the condition of the fairways, bunkers, and greens. Overall, it is recommended for its value and as a charming wedding location, though improvements in course upkeep are suggested.

Showed up for our 8:30 tee time at 8:15 and there was a sign on the door saying “on a call be back shortly.” We waited outside for 15 minutes, nothing. The outside was not well maintained, looks like nobody’s been there in ages. Ended up leaving super disappointed. Prepaid when we booked to get the deal, doubt we’ll get refunded. Very disappointed.

As a wedding photographer, I like Summerlea for it's quiet, country vibes. The property is very nice for wedding photos, especially when you walk to the top of the hill in front of the clubhouse at sunset. Their outdoor ceremony spot in front of the tree line is gorgeous. The landscaping around the reception tent is also well done. The staff are friendly and helpful. Only thing to keep in mind... I was last here in early Oct 2023 and it was a particularly cold, rainy day. Therefore, it was quite cold in the tent as there were no heaters. I hope to be at this pretty venue again soon. :)

Thanks to the Summerlea team and specially Ariel, we had our dream wedding and everything was amazing! They were so nice and patient with us. They cared about my vision and put everything together with such good taste and kindness. The landscape is beautiful and everyone had a blast! Thank you so much!

Summerlea is an amazing venue! As a wedding photographer, I am in LOVE with their grounds. The staff is so friendly and kind towards their vendors and that truly means the world to us. I can't recommend Summerlea enough and I'm so happy every time I have a couple who says their wedding is here because I know it will be an amazing experience for them (and me)!

Went here on 09/13/25. Extremely disappointed with everything. Nothing is maintained, greens are barely playable, fairways are atrocious, bunkers are overgrown with weeds but are "under repair". Paid $98 for 2 people for this terrible course. Sad. Although it was never the greatest course, it was a nice golf course for a very reasonable price. No more. It looks like ownership isn't even trying. On top of that I was shocked to see that they haven't even tried to clean up after their fire in their clubhouse. Take you money elsewhere. Summerlea is done

This is probably the worst course in Durham region. Very neglected. Terrible tee boxes, bunkers and fairways. The greens were ok. If you’re paying more $10 to play, it’s too much. Nice power carts though

This is the worse maintained golf course I’ve ever seen. I don’t even know how you can call it a golf course. Really hard to find your ball even in the “fairway.” The “bunkers” are mostly clay with dandelions. Not worth the money at all. Spend an extra $20 and play somewhere you can use more then 2 clubs. The pictures are the tee block and the bunker for reference

I have had the opportunity to photograph two weddings in this venue and each time was stunning. They are excellent at making sure your day run smoothly. The staff is friendly and very nice to work with.

Beautiful country course with a brilliant location. A lot of negative reviews on here but how can you complain when it’s as cheap as it is. I’ve been coming to Summerlea for years now, and I still come back for more every time. Since the new ownership last summer, I’ve noticed a vast number of improvements. I believe they recently put in a brand new irrigation system which is a heavy but amazing investment from the new management. Their prices for green/cart fees are really cheap for the area, starting at $20 for walking 9 and $45 for riding $18 during the week. I think their weekend rates a…

Went here for the first time ever golfing. We had lots of fun. But because we took longer than 2.5 hours as a group of 6 people they insisted we pay more money (not a single other group of people there). They also advertised a Thursday night special online and on signage at the golf course and they weren’t offering that.

Hard to complain about a course with a $30 green fee (walking), but there is certainly room for improvements here. Tee boxes were mostly dirt and fairway conditions left little to be desired. Conversely, greens were in good condition. It's a fun short course if you can look past the rough patches. I always have fun here, but encourage the club to invest more into course maintenance (green fees could go up!)
