This was a really fun experience on a Donald Ross original! for the price point. it's really hard to beat and complain so with that said, I probably had higher than realistic expectations. from what I had been told while it did somewhat disappoint, I had to be realistic and come to the conclusion. it was still a municipal golf course at the end of the day and probably one of the better available! it does however not hold a candle to the Charleston Muni after playing them both back-to-back weeks. I can tell you the Charleston Muni is far and beyond the better of the two courses and it's not eve…

What an absolute gem of a course….not only in NC, but in the United States. This course is everything you want a municipal course to be: a beautifully maintained Donald Ross design, contagious energy and busyness, and friendly staff. Both times I visited the course, there were just so many people enjoying their round and it was impactful to see just how popular golf has become over the last few years. Highly recommend this course!

Really, my only complaint is that we didn't tee off until a good 30 minutes after our scheduled tee time.. we were told there were a few groups ahead of us for some reason. Pace/scheduling management issues aside, the course is great for a municipal. Greens were well maintained, fairways were decent, bunkers were clean. Medium difficulty, good number of hazards. We enjoyed it a lot!

This is an amazing course. You can clearly see the Ross touches in the bunkering and green complexes. Think about it - $45 (includes cart) for a classic Ross design. Conditions: the tee boxes were fine, along with the fairways, greens and bunkers. The greens were actually sneaky fast and putted true. There is currently some ground under repair because they laid down some sod, but l didn’t feel like it came into play too much. And it’s nice to see they are making needed improvements. I definitely will return, and l can definitely recommend this course. Side notes: l didn’t use the driving range…

The course itself has a great layout and is in good shape, The one star rating is due to the pace. A 5 hour golf round is completely unacceptable. The course has a 2 hour and 20 minute pace allotment for 9 holes. That is ridiculous. Also allowing a 16-20 man scramble on a Saturday morning in the middle of regular Saturday play is really ridiculous. Everybody playing behind that group had a long, long round. For the fortunate golfers who were in front of them, they probably had a good day playing at a reasonable pace. I find it interesting that the same people get the good morning times there e…

Course and price was good, pace was ok. The starter couldn’t have been more of a jerk. Please tell me why someone that works a $7.00 an hour job at a municipal golf course feels he can talk down to the people that are paying to play there. I’ll never play here again and I will absolutely pass this on to everyone I know. Do a better job at hiring the people that talk to your customers.

This is the perfect course for this price point. Design is amazing. Pace of play was good for how many people were on the course. This is the essence of what municipal golf should be.

Can't say enough about our local Muni. Donald Ross loves his sand. Avoid the bunkers and you'll have a fun round regardless of the time of year. Open holes with many high handicappers able to navigate the course without losing a single ball. The course just completed renovation of the clubhouse and resodded the heavily used gold tee boxes. With a combo tee card at about 5900 and white tees at just under 6400 yards, there is a test for low/mid handicappers of all types.

Really nice and cool course designed by Donald Ross. We stayed 10 minutes away from there from Durham NC and it was a good course. The greens were pretty and fairways were nice as well. The green fee was around $40 each which was good. Shot a 83 there which wasn’t bad. About average for me as well. Great course!!!

Great golf course in Wilmington. We went on a Sunday morning and the rate was only about $55 which was great for the quality of the greens and fairways here. The pro staff was very friendly and checked us out quickly. Also, the hot dogs on the turn were incredible! Highly recommend if you’re in the Wilmington area.

Wilmington Muni could be one of the finest municipal facilities in the country if they found a way to maximize the golfing experience at this charming Donald Ross course. They made a large investment into the course with the restoration / renovation with John Fought, but it seems like they have let the conditions dwindle to some degree and the finer details have faded. The course has such a rich history and quintessential Ross design. It must be preserved, rather than neglected. All in all, it’s a treat that the public have access to this course and can play it at a reasonable price point.

A little patchy but a lot of fun. Friendly locals and laid back atmosphere. Would recommend. Can't beat the rates. UPDATE 7/22/22: still good, greens just aerated but good course and a lot of fun.
