In summary

Asheville Municipal Golf Course is appreciated for its challenging back nine, designed by Donald Ross, and the friendly and accommodating staff. However, many visitors express concerns about the course's condition, particularly the front nine, which remains closed due to hurricane damage, and the high prices for a municipal course. Some also mention issues with maintenance, such as rough fairways and slow pace of play on busy days.

This used to be a course I frequented all the time, but since hurricane Helene in 2024, they've only had 9 holes open. Understandable. What isn't super understandable is that those 9 are probably some of the least taken care of holes in all of WNC. It's fine and has never bothered me because it was always super affordable at around $40'ish. The course is absolutely worth that and I have zero second thoughts about paying that. In fact, it's lead me to play here more times than any other course. New for the 2026 season is a price hike that takes your 9-hole experience up to $68 with a cart. I m…

This was our first time to play the course and we had heard good things about it. First our GPS didn’t take us to the Clubhouse. So it was trickier to get there. We played on Saturday as a 3-some and they had a single play with us which was good. The starter is good at pairing up golfers and getting players out close to their tee time. It was BUSY so pace of play was slow. Especially the front nine. The front nine is a valley course with parallel fairways. On the front the course was in rough shape - fairways are as rough as the rough. The greens were good on the front nine mostly flat with so…

Helene washed out the front nine so for now, you play the back nine twice. For what it’s worth, the back nine has always been more interesting/fun than the front, with the Donald Ross design really shining here. Green condition is quite good. Prices are a bit high for a municipal course, and membership rates are in my opinion exorbitant. Fun fact: A temporary frisbee golf course has been established on the front nine while repairs continue.

Course is improving, Staff are kind and respectful. The front is open with strategically placed traps. The back 9 is a different course both technical and challenging. Good place to golf!

Although the back nine is all that is open right now due to Helene, the staff do a pretty good job at managing to keep operations smooth. The fairways can be 50/50 on condition but the greens are almost always above par. I play here often and I have noticed if I have a tee time my experience is better than if I show up randomly like at other munis. It is an all around great experience for the price except for when it is really busy. (Although the price seems a bit much for a municipal course) Fairways- 6/10 Greens- 8.5/10 Price- 6.5/10 Staff- 8/10 Rangers- 7/10 Carts- 7/10 All around 7/10

I came in this morning to play 9 holes. After entering the pro shop we weren’t greeted and had to go ask if this is where we pay. I was told the price for 9 holes was $35 but then when I got there the total was $51. I asked the gentleman why it was $51 and he said it was because they charged my wife $11 just to ride in the cart with me. She doesn’t golf nor care about it and we had to pay a little over a dollar a hole just to have her SIT in the cart. I think that is one of the biggest price gouging scams I have ever heard of. I would not recommend this course as it is down for maintenance (ev…

The only reason it gets one star is because it had 18 pin flags with 18 holes. Otherwise deserves negative stars. My boyfriend and I play regularly and always enjoy checking out new courses. While not every course is pristine, this one takes the cake for being the most disappointing, or more honestly, unplayable. Tee boxes were decrepit, with tee box markers haphazardly placed in the “rough” in front of them because the condition of tee boxes themselves were long gone. Weeds everywhere. “Fairways” with grass over an inch tall. Bunkers were rock hard. The “rough” of this course meant climbing t…

Only the back 9 was playable because of Helene, but the back 9 really was in pretty awesome shape considering the past year. A couple greens had sod patches across them, but it is what it is.

Nice views. Only back 9 available. Patchy areas along the fairway. If you hit your ball into the woods expect it is gone.. too many leaves to find a lost ball.

Awesome muni Donald Ross course. Solid pro shop and putting green, and good fairways and greens. Greens fees are fair and love that they participate in the Youth On Course program.
