In summary

The Country Club of Whispering Pines is often praised for its challenging layout, scenic setting, and friendly staff, offering a good value compared to more expensive nearby courses. However, some visitors have noted issues with course maintenance, including inconsistent greens and rough cart paths, as well as limited amenities like water and vending options. Despite these concerns, many find the club enjoyable for a casual round of golf.

Updated February 7th, 2023: Played The Pines course again because it's such a great value. We paid $29 to play on a weekday afternoon rate. I like the course and again found it in decent, but not great condition. The fairways are firm, tight and dry so there is plenty of roll. The greens have a nice Bermuda grass texture, are consistent and challenging. Perhaps the worst thing is the cart paths. I'd encourage them to tear up some of the remaining asphalt and go to natural sand. Around the edges can be a bit rough. All that said, I love the 5 closing holes. I think they are very challenging,…

Played the Pine Course last weekend and it was great! Course was fairly wide open and short. I had a a great round! A good amount of elevation change to make it just a bit more challenging. Greens were in pretty good shape and rolled true! Would recommend!

Greens and Tee boxes in excellent shape! This beautiful community really is taking course management seriously and the extra care shows in the beauty of the space and the lovely homes. If the Sand Hills of North Carolina is what you want to experience, this course has it all and for way less money then other area courses.

Great area. Close to Pinehurst and Southern Pines. Early in the season so the course hasn't grown in yet, but a much better deal than the $120 I laid out for Pinehurst No. 3. No. 11 on the Pines Course is a fabulous downhill sweeping right to left hole. Greens were OK but didn't seem to be consistent.

Average municipal golf course! Greens were not in good shape at all. Round was quick since course was essentially empty. Was part of golf package but I would not play again.

Do not play here! We played pines course and river courses today. Looked like the pin holes had not been changed in a week all were curled in Fairway s on the line course looked like rough. Mower was cutting the rough but could not see a difference where they cut and did not cut. ( they need to adjust the mower height to actually cut the grass. Bunkers were bare very little sand. Not with what they charge that’s for sure!

I hate to say this about my own home course. Played last weekend. Cost me over $160 to play and they didn't offer a discount if we walked. They also don't honor youth golf. $163 for a golf course that has no working vending machines. No water on the course and in mediocre shape is robbery. Don't golf here. Go to Hyland and at least be offered the ability to purchase a drink or have free water.

Played here last week for first time. The course has a great layout for all handicaps to enjoy. I love golf but love pine trees and nature and this course has plenty of that. Stopped by the clubhouse after for a dog and a mocktail. Great for relaxing after a round.

Played this course recently and was very disappointed . For the cost the course was in poor shape. Mown grass still in fairways, greens burnt and in poor condition. You will definitely need a mouth guard as well while riding on cart paths. Rutted and bumpy along the entire course. For the money I would say go elsewhere.

I serve as the secretary treasurer of a large group that brought 55 golfers to Whispering Pines on 11-5-24. Our group has played Whispering Pines many times over the years. We have never seen Whispering Pines as bad as we Encountered this year. The Pines used to be decent with nice greens but this year the entire Facility was terrible. I asked The counter attendant and he indicated the facility is for sale. We have been booked there for several months and the decent communication would have been to let us know how bad the course is being Maintained. Our groups leadership Apologizing to our mem…

Had brunch at the Bell Tree, 1st experience at WP golf club. Was very surprised at the overall appearance and upkeep of the building. Carpets were dirty with grass, looked like they had not been vacuumed in several days and the bathroom was dirty, floors and sinks...and this was mid day! The whole place needs some upgrades but think they should start with keeping it clean! The Bell Tree was at least clean and pleasant inside!

Whispering Pines is a favorite course for us. Staff are always friendly and accommodating. From the staff offering to pick us & our clubs up at our vehicle, to coming out to deliver a yardage book. It’s a great place to play! The greens are challenging. There’s a balance of long and shorter holes. The par 3’s are not at all easy but add another unique layer to the course. Definitely will continue to visit while we are in the area.
