In summary

Lakewood Golf Course is frequently praised for its well-maintained course and friendly staff, with many visitors enjoying the overall condition of the greens and fairways. However, there are consistent criticisms regarding customer service, particularly at the front desk, and issues with golf carts malfunctioning. Some guests have also expressed dissatisfaction with course policies, such as early cart return times and limited amenities, which have impacted their overall experience.

The course itself is in great shape, and I want to compliment both the cart girl and the marshal — they were friendly, welcoming, and really added to the experience. Unfortunately, the golf pro at the front desk, was the opposite. For a course that charges $125 a round, you’d expect professionalism and basic hospitality, but instead I was met with a dismissive attitude and no courtesy whatsoever. A smile and a little respect go a long way. It’s disappointing when one person can sour what is otherwise a solid course.

The golf course is great. I do wish they had ice and coolers. 3/4/26 ‐ Looks like they have ice and coolers now. Greens were in great shape. Hard to beat this course for the price.

The golf course did exceed my expectations. Decent and convenient course for golfers. The staff in the clubhouse didn’t seem like friendly people that enjoy their jobs. The golf carts could use an upgrade. And the mask mandate still in effect here weeks away from 2022 is a joke. This is Alabama, not California folks.🙄

This course was one of my favorite in the area but after “some people” started managing this course it’s just became a shit show, the staff is terrible “accept for the one younger guy with sunglasses that washes the carts he’s pretty chill” I would only recommend this course if you want to have a terrible day

The course is in better shape than the last time I was there but the staff is terrible and rude as hell . I read some of these other reviews saying great staff and real nice all I can say they are lying. And I guess the city of phenix city don't care about how rude they are to customers.

I thought the course was very pleasant… Until the son of a gun came out there and told us at 7 o’clock. We have to turn our cart in. we were on the stinking 16th hole and he could not wait for us to finish our round at 7 o’clock 3 1/2 hours after we paid for 18 holes. This course sells 18 holes of golf up until 330 and then at 7 o’clock They tell you you gotta turn your cart in. They also tell you you can pay for nine holes up until 530. I wonder how many customers they are ripping off and not allowing them to finish what they paid for. We played at a normal pace and stayed right behind the…

I’m not understanding why this course does not take the reviews seriously, or attempting to fix the discrepancies that many visitors have discussed. I entertained some potential clients there for a meeting, I paid for their round because of the courses they have played on before I.e., Augusta, TP Sawgrass, Donald Trump course in Florida. I was embarrassed for Lakewood the way that they talked about and took pictures of the greens, the putting surface. So now I have to travel to Calloway Gardens or to Atlanta for a respectable outing and successful meeting. May I suggest shutting down the cours…

I’m not sure why the reviews are so bad for this place. The course was in good shape, the greens were in incredible shape. Came in from out of town with a business trip and this course was everything you could ask for. While the staff wasn’t overly bubbly and charismatic, they were informative and polite. After reading all the negative reviews about this place I was expecting a nightmare but Lakewood turned out to be a hidden gem. I will definitely be returning to this course next time I’m in town.
