In summary

Ponkapoag Golf Club is appreciated for its excellent layout and reasonable pricing, offering 36 holes that challenge players from tee to green. However, many visitors express dissatisfaction with the course's maintenance, citing poor conditions of the greens and fairways, as well as inconsistent service. While some find the location and design appealing, the overall experience is marred by issues with course upkeep.

DO NOT PLAY. Staff were very nice, no problems there. But the course is miserable to play. Greens are cratered to all hell, one hole is next to water which just drains onto the fairway (hadn’t rained in over two weeks and the middle third of the fairway was covered in long strips of standing water), fairways themselves are barely groomed some are just ripped up entirely. Landscaping is horrendous, if you aren’t right on the fairway there’s a 2/3 chance you just won’t find your ball in all the nettles, poison ivy and weeds, most pins are impossible to see (one hole was even listed at a certain…

Worst course I’ve ever played on. Showed up to play 18 with carts. Carts weren’t allowed out that day due to rain the previous day, but we were never notified beforehand. Course was an absolute mess with patchy greens and water everywhere. We also had asked if we could play as a group of 5, to which they said no which we respected, but then they put us in a group of 6 with two random people and let 6 play after us. Staff is inconsistent and doesn’t seem to care.

Extremely disappointed with the condition of the greens at Ponkapoag Golf Course. Easily some of the worst greens I’ve ever played on. Uneven, patchy, slow, and poorly maintained throughout the course. It honestly felt like putting on rough in some holes. The layout has potential, but the greens completely ruin the experience. For the money paid, the course conditions should be much better.

Ponkapoag Golf Course might genuinely be the worst course me and the boys have ever touched. Fairways looked like they hadn’t been maintained since the Great Depression, greens rolled like a parking lot, and somehow the rough was better than the actual course conditions. On top of that, they wouldn’t even let me drink a beer while playing like I’m out there training for the PGA Tour or something. Honestly, we would’ve had a better time sitting on the commuter rail for 4 hours straight than wasting money here. If you enjoy mud patches, slow play, and disappointment, this is the place for you.

Would give zero stars if I could. Charged $45 for 18 with cart. They sent us on course 2 and from the tee box to green it is in terrible shape. Completely dry with many dirt spots. Green have crabgrass and dirt, and are so uneven your ball jumps and bounces. Confirmed with some locals that both courses are an embarrassment. It is really a shame because the layout would be a nice course. The greens keeper (if they have one) needs to be fired and reevaluate his career choice.

These courses are a mixed bag. The good: excellent layouts, very cheap, great location, pace of play was surprisingly fast, tee boxes were flat for the most part, course 2 was overall in pretty good shape The neutral: the grass in the fairways and most tee boxes were essentially dead. We’re in a drought now so I actually don’t mind this—it saves water and the environment and it creates nice firm conditions. But it created some tough lies on the fairways and tee boxes. Course 1 fairways were much greener than course 2. The bad: the greens and some tee boxes were essentially unplayable on all…

The fall colors are so pretty!! If you walk here before the sunrise, the frost on the grass glitters like gems when the sunlight falls on them. There is plenty of free parking. Did not see any restrooms

The course is OK for a public course but the online booking is outsourced to GolfPass which automatically signs you up for a membership at $99/yr. You can call & cancel it but a lot of people may not even catch it. We were aware of this the second time we signed and paid attention to making sure we checked or unchecked what we should to avoid signing up for things unnecessarily. But alas it signed us up anyway. What a scam! Not inclined to go here anymore because of this issue.

I did not have a great experience at this golf course. My brother and I booked a tee time with carts but they wouldn’t allow us to use them because you have to be 21 to rent a cart unlike any other golf course I’ve ever seen. Don’t even know why but we were a little annoyed and brushed it off and said okay we’ll walk and asked if we could use the push carts. They made us pay almost the exact same amount for the pushcarts as it would be for a regular golf cart. We got him a rental set too and one of the clubs was literally from a toddler set. The driver was all dented and some of the irons were…

The design of this course is pretty amazing, you can tell it's a Donald ross. However the compliments end there. I wish they would take better care of this course, it has potential but unfortunately is a mess.

There is a reason tee times are always available at this course - terrible greens, fairways, and overall course conditions. See photos for evidence. On the brighter side of things, course has a fantastic layout and reasonable cost. 36 holes, really poorly kept holes, but 36 well designed holes nonetheless. The service is brutal. The clubhouse staff is very similar to the maintenance staff - incompetent. I frequently get double charged for tee times. Maintenance 0.5/5 Design 4/5 Cost 4/5 Service 1/5 Overall 2/5
