In summary

River Valley Golf Course is frequently praised for its challenging and well-maintained layout, friendly and helpful staff, and reasonable pricing, making it an enjoyable experience for both novice and seasoned golfers. The course features GPS-equipped carts and a picturesque setting, contributing to its appeal. However, some visitors have noted issues such as inconsistent green conditions, obstructive weeds on certain holes, and dissatisfaction with certain management decisions during events, which detract from the overall experience for a few.

The owners are a delight, and the doggo in the pro shop always has a smile to make me feel better after a 3-putt on 18. The course is tricky, you need to labs your approach shots on the correct level or you're in danger, girl. They are kind, compassionate, caring people who run a nice course. Thank you!

Course is always in great shape. This is a very challenging course that is very reasonably priced. Staff is always friendly and helpful. The carts here have GPS and assist with distance not only to the green but the position of the pin on the green. Would recommend this course to anyone in the area.

Rates are reasonable and the course is in pretty good shape overall, apart from a few patchy greens that need some TLC. Speaking of greens, not a ton of break on most of them on the front 9, but they seem to get more & more challenging on the back 9. Especially #17 & 18. Good luck putting downhill to a front-pin on 18...you could easily end up at the bottom of the hill. The layout keeps you interested, with varying tests on every hole. If you have weaknesses in your game, this course will shine a spotlight on them. There is out-of-bounds on virtually every single hole, so if you aren't hittin…

Impressed. Played it 15 years ago and it was a goat track. New owners have it looking tight IMO. 18 is crazy but that hole was there before they took it over. Greens in great shape, especially with the drought we are having. Well worth the $45. I'll be back.

Clubhouse is nice, price is nice, course is not. I came down here for business and decided to play one of the courses in the area. When I got here, there was literally one other group on the entire course. I paid my $15 and teed off on #10 to play 9 holes after I got off work. Layout is extremely easy. Another review below says it's for beginners to almost-tour players. It's not. It's for beginners. Wide open. Greens roll pretty true. Fairways were absolutely fried and what grass there was looked to be in rough shape. Ground was extremely hard too, but that might be an Iowa thing. Overall, it…

Great layout, challenging but fair. Could be a hidden gem in the greater DSM metro area if not for the rock pebble bunkers. Wouldn't swing my wedges in those bunkers. Get actual fine sand bunkers without rock pebbles and you are onto something here!

I would consider myself a regular customer at River Valley. The course is fun with some forgiving holes yet long and at times challenging. Perfect for an average golfer similar to myself. I recently went to play River Valley to golf with another person to find out that they are not allowing each individual golfer to have their own cart (but go out as a group). When I explained our safety concern with the Covid pandemic the front desk lady had no other options or much efforts put into attempting to help the situation. Disappointing to experience.

Way over priced. Charge the green fee of a premier course but the maintenance looks like it’s overseen by a toddler. Save yourself the trouble and just head an 20 minutes west of here to panorama National in Panora. Same price as here but they actual care about the course and the players

This course has come back quite a bit after the mismanagement of the past few years. I actually made it a point to avoid this course the past 6+ years because the owner simply seemed not to care about the conditions nor the high end prices he was charging. Gave in and played it twice this year in tournaments and once as a foursome and the changes are very noticeable. The fairways are back to being very lush, the greens are in great shape, the green fees were more than reasonable once again and the staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. With the direction that things seem to be going I will…

We played a 4 person best shot, for the Earlham Freedom Fest, the course was in perfect shape even after a heavy rain, the greens mowed perfectly, the fairways drained exceptionally well considering the rain fall before our tournament. The staff was very friendly. The meal after was very good food. This course has always been a favorite of mine. Definately will be back ,and advise other golfers to come play this course, you won't be disappointed.
