In summary

The Preserve on Rathbun Lake is frequently praised for its challenging layout, scenic views, and friendly staff, making it a popular choice for golfers in the area. Many visitors appreciate the well-maintained greens and reasonable green fees. However, some have noted issues with course maintenance, particularly the condition of sand traps and rough areas, and feel that the course does not justify its higher pricing.

I really wanted to love this course! It had been on my radar to play for a few years now and finally found the time to make the drive down from Des Moines. A Golfnow hotdeal of $35 with cart looked like an incredible deal, but the course didn't warrant a single dollar more, if even that much. The conditions were terrible overall. Greens were decent, rolled smooth, but slow. They pretty much let all the traps go and the fairways were patchy at best. The rough was terribly bumpy; my teeth are still chattering. It looks like they used to have GPS, which would have been incredibly helpful, but it'…

This course has gone downhill the past couple of years. Use to be in excellent shape, but now some of the greens/tees/fairways show burnout or wear. The worst part of this golf course is the bunkers. Hopefully they start putting more care into the course soon

This course was great! You barely see any houses the entire round, holes are challenging yet reward good shots, greens were in good shape. This is the best course I've ever played in Southern IA, I will definitely be back!

The course is an average condition. If it were 20-30 bucks cheaper it’d be a much better track. Limited shop options. Fungus and crabgrass and shoddy tee boxes and greens. Especially on the first. Probably wouldn’t come back but a great place to play at least once, I think.

paid $83 a person for this course was very excited to play since I am not from around there I was very disappointed sand traps were all Rock hard and had weeds all over. The rough was so bumpy and mainly dirt. The cart navigation system literally only lets you drive in the fairway and has a 50 foot rule from the green. It seems like. Photos online or nothing like how it is when you play good public courses here for about $45 around or 10 times better than this has potential to be good but I feel they are using their location as an excuse for high good prices I was teeing off on a par three as…

This was a challenging course for us. Beautiful setting and the fairway/greens are well kept. Reasonable green fee's. Bring a lot of balls and have fun!

Overall pretty good. Challenging course with many tee boxes where the hole isn't visible. Staff was very nice. The fairway was a little rough and the greens were hot, but the weather has been hot and dry so it's to be expected. Wouldn't have minded seeing a beer cart.

I have never had played at a golf course where I would never go back and this unfortunately is one of them. The rough right of every single fair way was covered in white clover and the grass was entirely too tall you couldn’t find your balls even on playable hits , the sand traps were mostly rock and weeds the laziness maintaining this course is very apparent , they get away with charging premium course prices for terrible course because it’s on rathbun it was around 170$ for 2 and a cart , I wouldn’t recommend this course to anybody

It's was a really nice course a couple years ago. Currently most of the sand traps have grass growing in them. The majority of the course is a little run down. Definitely not worth the $83 for a round of 18. Better and nicer courses dont charge that much.

Played this very nice and challenging course this past summer and really enjoyed it! Green fees are reasonable for the quality of course. Driving range was excellent. Go on a breezy day and the course gets real interesting. Update (they're really let this place go.) 🤧

Beautiful golf course. We had my company outing here & the although the weather didn't cooperate, Darin, Mick & the rest of the staff at the club were phenomenal. Took such great care of all my crew and made sure that the outing went off without out a hitch!

The rough was rough and the fairways are fair. The course is long and I really enjoyed how open it felt as opposed to courses with holes on top of each other. It would be nice to see the junior tees a little shorter, other than that we were happy campers. I'll be back to play again.
