In summary

Wawashkamo Golf Club on Mackinac Island is celebrated for its historic charm and unique layout, which includes features like cross bunkers and chocolate drops, set against a backdrop of rich history from the War of 1812. The course is generally well-maintained, and the staff, particularly Chuck, is frequently praised for their friendliness and helpfulness. However, some visitors have noted issues with course conditions, such as bumpy terrain, and the lack of on-course amenities like a beverage cart, which can detract from the overall experience.

Take a trip back into time on Michigans Oldest Continuously Used Gold Course in the state. Minimally changed over time it features some unique features I’ve only seen here. There is a cross bunker on one hole, just a line of dirt and grass that goes across the fairway to stress out your tee shot. Another hole has what are called chocolate drops. Just plops of rocks and grass scattered about. And finally the Circus Ring. A few foot high circle of dirt and grass surrounding a green. Forcing a higher shot in approach. Trying fun ideas. I wish I seen more. The course is built in the site of a War…

Great course with so much history. Very well groomed and maintained. Played it in early October. The weather was perfect and the scenery was beautiful and full of fall colors. Some of us brought our own clubs, some of us rented. Highly recommend.

For me golfing at Wawashkamo is an annual event. I've played for 20 consecutive years and each time is a unique golfing experience. Playing golf is a challenge, historic and a fun walk with family and friends on Wawashkamo. I still enjoy reading the history markers on the unique holes but I do miss the story behind the "sand tee" setup on hole #1. The staff is super helpful and supportive for family golf gathering and the greenskeeper is indispensable and does an amazing job keeping up an immaculate course conditions each year . The course is unique with 2 set of tees for each hole and an orig…

I have played there many times. Exceedingly cool course in an extremely historic place. The staff and the pro could not possibly be any nicer. A must play.

Went with my wife and son (and none of us are experienced golfers). Course was beautiful the staff is super friendly. If you're heading up to the island, bring your clubs. Never saw a circus ring before, so that was really interesting.

I love these old courses. My father helped renovate some tee boxes when I was a very young sidekick. I had the pleasure of consulting on some bunker and drainage issues a few decades ago as well. A full circle I suppose. A very nice, historic course should play if you’re ever lucky enough to visit Mackinac Island.

Whole course was terribly bumpy. There was no beverage cart going around and no food available on the course. For 110 per person i’d expect those to be available, price is just the island tax I guess but it was not a very enjoyable round.

Relaxed course with interesting history. Links style, it's 9 holes with dual tees for 18. Not too challenging, but with fun Scottish style design features. No alcohol sold on site, bring your own. Lovely carriage ride to get there. Worth the trip. Chuck was so friendly and had lots of interesting facts about the course. We really had a great play, and the low key atmosphere was appreciated. From Mission Point it was 25 cab fare, 55 for 9 holes with cart.

I’ve golfed all over and there is nothing quite like Wawashkamo. Taking a horse taxi through the beautiful island and arriving greeted by a friendly staff, the experience was amazing from start to finish. The links course is both challenging and rewarding. I highly recommend it to all levels of golfers!

Chuck (pretty sure that was his name) in the pro shop was great at explaining this unique golf course and helping us out loading and unloading clubs off the carriages. He was extremely friendly and was very accommodating that our carriage took much longer than we anticipated. The course itself remains mostly unchanged since opening in 1898. This makes it a lot different than most courses with small greens, interesting sand traps, and even some history of The Battle of 1812 scattered throughout the course. Again, the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming.

This weekend I had a fabulous experience playing 9-hole at Wawashkamo Golf Club on Mackinac Island. Wawashkamo is a 10 - 20 minute bike ride from Downtown Mackinac Island and well worth the ride. The course is beautiful with a unique layout/bunker scheme. Chuck and the staff at Wawashkamo do a great job of making you feel welcome and ensuring that you have a great experience on the course. I highly recommend the outing!
