In summary

Ancil Hoffman Golf Course is widely appreciated for its beautiful natural setting along the American River, featuring mature trees, wildlife, and well-maintained greens. The course layout is challenging and requires strategic play, which many golfers find rewarding. However, some visitors mention a slow pace of play due to its popularity and closely scheduled tee times, and there are occasional concerns about amenities and customer service.

Torrey Pines golf course designer William Bell designed Ancil Hoffman. Long, difficult yet fair golf course, Ancil Hoffman can add 3-5 shots compared to other courses and if you can master this course, you can play well anywhere. Nestled along fertile soul from the American River, you will be amazed at all the beautiful mature trees. Enjoy the wildlife while this mind psyop of a layout brings you to your knees. The crowd here is definitely not upper class country club and play can be slow as profit squeezes tee off groups every 8 minutes. The course seems to always be booked and being difficul…

It is a large area that is part natural, part park and partially a golf course. It's a beautiful setting for golf, but I have never played there. Actually I just go there to walk along the river or walk my dog. It's beautiful! Although being on a golf course you may occasionally encounter loud lawn mowers, which kind of destroyed the end of my peaceful walk today. You can also visit the Effie Yeaw nature center and walk around the beautiful natural area there. You may get lucky and see some deer or a group of turkeys basking in the sun. But dogs aren't allowed in that portion of the park. If y…

This golf course is a hidden gem in Sacramento California! It sits among a lush landscape of hiking trails and lush vegetation. The course is old school with lots of trees and narrow fairways and small but fast greens. If you hit a good shot off the tee it might get knocked down by a tree if your shot is off by just inches but it could be thrown back in the middle of the fairway by said tree! If you play this course be prepared to put on your thinking cap because you will need to use your course management skills to score well. This course is a shot makers course and not a bomb it one. Also, e…

Such a beautiful course. Sits right in nature off the American River. Even though there are a ton of trees to fight through, the challenge is so fun. Love these old school classic courses where you can walk easily and not have to play between suburban track homes like most courses in Sac. One of the best courses in town!

The Ancil Hoffman Golf Course in Carmichael, California is in a beautiful location. It borders the American River, so big trees and natural foliage line the fairways, providing plenty of shade on sunny days, and wildlife sightings, like deer and squirrels are a common occurrence. The scenic environment makes for a very peaceful setting to enjoy a round of golf. A major advantage is its convenient location for myself and many in the Carmichael and Sacramento area, making it easily accessible to many golfers. However, this accessibility can lead to some downsides. Tee times can be limited at p…

Many leave comments and reviews about the course... which is fantastic! However, I would like to point out how great the food is. I come here just for lunch!🤩

Money to buy unnecessary new carts, but not for shoe spike cleaners at ANY of the tee box areas. All the employees I talked to state the same thing: it's a Sacramento County decision to buy anything. Mather has them, Cherry Island has them. Why not Ancil? Use the 'holiday rate' money from Black Friday, a non-holiday for most working people. Not even the cashiers at the course get paid a 'holiday' rate on this pseudo holiday. County penny pinching thieves at their finest. The old carts worked fine; a waste of taxpayer money.

I played Ancil Hoffman Golf Course recently, and it’s in better shape than it’s been in years past. The greens are pretty good and running between 7-8. The staff there, however, is fantastic! I played with a disabled golfer, and everyone went out of their way to make sure that he was able to enjoy his round of golf. Thank you to everyone at Ancil Hoffman Golf.

One of Sacramento region's hidden gems, this is among the best of Sacramento County's Parks, with many acres of riparian land with comfortable walking trails. The public golf course is one of the most popular and heavily used in the area, and it's generally kept in very good condition.

Great place to drive some balls, it has shade on the range for hot days. The course is great and clean with wildlife out and about for great scenery. Had a great time here and will come back often for sure!

Beautiful course in great condition at a great price. There are A LOT of trees which provides a nice challenge and lots of shade. If golfers would fix their pivots on the green it would be even better. So if you're reading this FIX YOUR DIVOTS!

Wow, what a fantastic golf course! The layout is seriously fun, and I loved every hole. Plus, the views of the river are absolutely gorgeous, making the whole experience even better. It's definitely a course I'd recommend to anyone looking for a great day out! I can't wait to go back and play again soon.
