Big Run Golf Club

Had such a great time had big run golf club from a vendor standpoint. Loading was amazing making it super easy to navigate the grounds. Definitely a very spacious deck right off the golf in green.

One of the most challenging courses in Chicagoland, true test of skills, average conditions but beautiful layout makes up for it. Love it!

Difficult course. Really not a good course to play if you have a high handicap. I enjoy the layout. It's unique for the Chicago area as the tee boxes are high up and you hit down to a valley and hit up to the green. It is not uncommon to have a green 30 above where you're hitting and a couple are more than that. Needless to say, it is impractical to play unless you have a riding cart. The greens have a lot of terrain making reading them challenging. The biggest knock as to why giving it only 3 stars is they do not have any indication as to where the pin position is. Have mixed feelings about this course. I feel it could be an amazing place if a few changes were made. Pros: Course was really fun and hilly terrain is so different to what you see elsewhere in IL. We got a Saturday morning tee time and pace of play was totally fine. Fairways and greens were nothing special, but in fine condition. Greens were tricky which made it fun. Cons: Staff could be pretty rude. They called us up to tee off 20 min before our tee time. We would happily go early, but we were still setting up. I won’t be coming back. My only photo from the round at big run, but it should give you an idea of course condition and maintenance efforts/quality. Every single bunker is unplayable, even the ones that aren’t flagged as GUR. On the plus side, the layout is different than anything you’ll find in the area, and I think it’s their justification for the overpriced tee times. It’s not worth a penny over $60 in the current condition, but they could charge $110+ if it were prestine. Played after work at 3:45pm and the course was wide open, no one in front or behind. Such a fun course to play, forgiving and challenging with some blind shots and overall pretty hilly, which was awesome. Very scenic with some water features around the par-3s. Well worth it for the price.

It’s a gem in my opinion, staff is friendly, course is in good shape for being a public course, sure things could be improved as with any and all public courses. but the rate was great and it’s got great vibes the course is challenging with out being too tough. Bar and club house are awesome and are old school.

Great course, beautiful location. Rough is now being cut down so losing balls is a thing of the past. Great senior price at 45 with cart.

Incredible layout and history- mature course at a beautiful setting- definitely has slight pace of play issues, at least on the day we played- but well run and friendly staff. Course maintenance could be slightly improved as the conditions were very dry and the ground was hard in fall of 2024. Some very memorable holes, tight driving conditions so you'll want to play an iron or 2 off the tees if you spray it with the driver. Would play again- this course is a sleeping giant.

Course in best shape in years. Greens only running at like 8-9 tho. They fix the bunkers it's gonna b a real spot 4 real golfers. Short. Tough. Pretty fair.

With a few minor tweaks this course could be beyond outstanding. The layout is interesting and the terrain is pretty hilly for Illinois. We only got lost once, but quickly figured it out. A few bunkers had weeds, in rough shape, or under repair, but the majority had been freshly raked. Some standing water, but we'd had torrential downpours the two days prior. The tee boxes were in great shape for being tee boxes. The greens were also in great shape and we appreciated trying to figure out the undulations. The fairways and rough were an appropriate height.
