What People Say

In summary

Black Bear Golf Club receives mixed reviews, with some visitors appreciating its scenic layout, friendly staff, and the absence of houses and parallel fairways. However, many reviews highlight significant maintenance issues, including poor greens, unkempt fairways, and debris on the course, suggesting a need for investment and improvement. The course is under new ownership, which some patrons hope will lead to enhancements in the future.

We played for free so I'm not sure of the cost but if I had paid I would have wanted a refund. The course is very unique kept. The greens are rotten and brown. The fairways were muddy and spots of dead and dieing grass and the rough was littered with sticks and leaves. The cart path was filled with pot holes and roots. The carts were dirty with trash from previous golfers. And finely the snack bar is way over priced even for a golf course. The course design is good the place could be great. They need to spend some money and fix the place up.

GOLFER BEWARE!!! In terms of course maintenance, Black Bear is the worst golf course I have ever played. The greens are unputtable...covered with sand, dead spots and weeds. Most fairways are average to below average. Many times I could not tell where the fairway started or ended. There are no collars to the greens. It's very apparent no money is being invested in the course. The course was littered with sticks and other debris. Bottom line, the course is in terrible shape and should be hold to an owner who will maintain it, otherwise, shut it down. My friends and I come from Ohio to Myrtle…

Very horrible course. Greens were very sandy if you can believe that. It was a total waste of green fees. Ownership changed to Chinese and they must have lost funding because it was horrible. See the pics I add for proof. Would have gotten one star but one dollar beers and hot dogs gets them up to two. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE IF YOU ARE ON VACATION.

Played Wednesday, beautiful day! Course was in great shape. First time we played here. Great layout, no houses, no parallel fairways. Very scenic. Played course in 3 hours. Staff very friendly. Highly recommend, we will be back.

FORE!!! To Brendan McGlynn and the goons who commented most recently: As the dude would say, after the guys pee on his rug and stuff his head in the toilet, "Apparently you are not a golfer." You goons are what is wrong with America, or the American Internet. On their website Black Bear states that they put in new greens last year. Greens take time to develop. You get an F for your comment. South Park did an episode about guys like you and Yelp. You think you deserve something special because you have the ability to bash something on the Internet. If you think something could be corrected…

Under new ownership. The course was bought by some really promising investors. They are on track to making Black Bear one of the premier courses in the grand strand. I am really excited to see what's to come!
