However, some visitors have noted issues with the starter's attitude and the condition of tee boxes, as well as occasional course management problems.

Chick Evans is a nice, very affordable Cook Country Forest preserve 18 hole course. It is very much in the "woods" style and very easy to forget your on the edge of the 2nd city. Relatively challenging for a public course, with water and thick woods coming into play on most holes and several forced carries. Lots of opportunities to see birds, deer, rabbits and other wildlife. Staff is wonderful and very helpful. Pro shop is a little more expanded than you would expect, and can do some club modifications. The course can be quite busy, especially on weekends, so booking a tee time is recom…

Amazing course, we all had such a great time! The staff was super nice, especially the beer cart girl. She was fast and honestly the nicest person I’ve ever met. The only thing I’d mention is the leaves on the fairway and tee boxes on the front 9, I wish they were cleared up a bit, but other than that everything was perfect. Definitely recommend and will 100% be back!

Very friendly staff on site. Short holes with greens that break quite a fair bit. Great "getaway round" option for Evanston-based folks.

I played every week here during the summer of 2025, and now into the fall. This is a great course for a quick 9. It is also a really great course if you prefer to walk. With a diverse set of hole difficulties, Chick Evans is a great course for everyone. I do suggest they do some work on the tee boxes.

Big props for staying open year round. Played a couple rounds for the last couple of years and it’s always in good shape for a good price. Great crew as well

Great public course. Greens and always amazing. Great place to challenge your game. From simple straight par 3 to hard par 5's. Amazing friendly staff. Highly recommended.

The good: cheap and somewhat convenient from the city. Generally in decent shape too. Friendly staff inside The bad: so many gimmicky and poorly designed golf holes. You'll also quickly get backed up with 1 & 2 potentially being drivable par 4s, while the par 5 3rd might be the worst designed hole in America. Constant bug problems, especially between holes 6-9 and 15-18. If you want to sneak in a quick 9/18 before work it's great, if you're looking for 5 stars, go elsewhere

Golf course is fantastic- no problems there. However, the starter (The Veteran, unsure of his name) has been a total Jerk every time I’ve gone, and my friends have the same experience. We are nothing but respectful, and he consistently has a negative attitude and is genuinely rude. Makes me want to not come back, as I don’t want to deal with his attitude/rude comments. I highly recommend finding another starter or addressing him so his actions don’t continue. I respect our veterans deeply, and I don’t believe in confronting him as I respect him for his former services. Regardless, having him…

First time leaving a review. I haven't played the course in a couple of years - played last week and found the course in horrible shape. The tee boxes terrible- nobody fixes a ball mark on greens- cups cut very bad. Very disappointed- won't be going back.

Of course I prefer to play at nicer courses with longer and tougher par 4's, but Chick Evans is a fun run. Most of the par 4's are short, but they still have their challenges. One par 4 is so short it's almost a long par 3. Watch out. Some of the greens are tricky and have some subtle breaks. The phrase "You get what you pay for" definitely applies to this course.
