In summary

Eagle Ridge Golf Club's General course is highly praised for its scenic and challenging layout, with dramatic elevation changes and well-maintained conditions. The staff is generally regarded as friendly and helpful, enhancing the overall experience. However, some visitors express concerns about the lack of GPS in the golf carts, inconsistent pace of play, and certain maintenance issues such as bunker conditions and cart path safety.

My favorite of the four coursea available to play at Eagle Ridge. Prepare for a lot of terrain on the course, as even on fairways you'll find plenty of side, uphill and downhill lies. It is debatable, but possibly the easiest of the three 18 hole courses at Eagle Ridge. But by no means is it easy. Clubhouse staff is extremely pleasant and on-the-job. No driving range or chipping area here, so you have to go to the North Course for that. Beverage cart and snack bar at turn will keep you fueled up with basic golf course fare. Conditions were excellent when we played, so they're taking care…

I would give six stars if I could. I almost hate to leave a review because I feel like this place is a dirty little secret that I only want to tell to my closest friends. In all seriousness, though, the General is one of the nicest, most challenging, and scenic golf courses I’ve ever had the privilege to play. Every hole is incredible, but there are a few that are truly unbelievable. Even better yet, and probably even more unbelievable than some of the views and the condition of the course, is that you can play for only $55 after 3:00pm. We were able to get 27 holes and it seriously felt li…

The golf course is in excellent shape. Mostly wide fairways with little room for error when a fairway is missed…your ball will often find unmowed grass or Forrest. The issue our group found with this golf course is with the outside golf staff. Rude, pressing, unprofessional. When golf groups get together to spend $160+ per person per round of golf, one would hope for an opening demeanor who demonstrates excitement and welcomes new golfers to the place they’re proud to represent. There was no concessions on course, no cart girl. Inside restaurant after food was great: golf course well worth pla…

Every month, I travel through the NE quadrant of Iowa and am always looking for the best golf courses I can find to play. Today started with a 5 hour drive from home (Hudson, WI) to Dubuque. After a quick meeting, I made my way just south of Galena, IL to Eagle Ridge Resort and, based on some recommendations, played The General course. Let me start by saying this place was insane! Despite my better judgment, I took on The General from the 4-star tees (black/tips) since it comes in under 6900y. The challenge wasn't so much handing the length, but keeping the ball in play. The course winds thro…

I have nothing but good things to say about the course itself, but pace of play is absolutely brutal. We played two 6 hour rounds and while I know it's resort golf, it was so much worse than the slowest rounds I have played anywhere else.

The General is one of the best tracks in America, hands down. Scenic and challenging, but fair and fun, this course is a must play for any golfer. Add in a top notch staff that is full of very helpful info and eager to please, plus impeccable course conditions that can't be beat, and you have a 5 star experience!!

For the price you pay you don't get that great of service, but the grounds are spectacular. Very technical course, with little room to miss fairways. Next time I'm leaving the driver in the bag! NOTE:Bring CASH for beverage cart on the course, no card because the service isn't good.

This course has the potential to be a bucket-list, must-play sort of experience. It is nicely designed to take advantage of the spectacular views of the bluffs along the Mississippi River. However, when we visited in September, 2025, we found a tired track badly in need of care. The most glaring issue is the fleet of gasoline powered carts, lacking GPS screens, that are noisy and downright dangerous on the twisty, steep inclined paths. And some of the access points to and from the fairways are too steep to be safely negotiated. Just trying to climb up to the cart path on #5 it took me three tr…

Amazing golf course. The views, the playing conditions, the staff, THE GOLF. INCREDIBLE. Can’t say enough about this course. Still talking about The General 3 days later.

Golfed the general, this golf course was hard. Poor markings on the couse, carts dont tell you the distance to the flag, rough was a foot high, maybe if you are a pro you would have a better time. If you are a few times a year golfer bring two dozen balls.

The course is beautiful but for $160 for 18 holes with a golf cart with NO GPS is unheard of. Get GPS in your carts if you are going to charge so much. Also, there are no red, white and blue range markers. The ones on the sprinkler heads are so hard to find. It’s unacceptable and ridiculous for $160. You can’t put down distance markers. I play on $20 courses that have distance markers $50 courses that have GPS in their carts.
