Historic Muni Vibes: Checking out the Grounds at Ewa Villages The Smartgolfcourses visited Ewa Villages to see the municipal side of things. There’s a lot of history here near the old sugar cane train tracks. The atmosphere is super relaxed and local. The first fairway looks wide and inviting. Smartgolfcourses loves finding these community gems where the game is accessible to everyone. Well done to the crew for preserving the historic charm and keeping the game accessible here.

This is a municipal courses, so you get what you pay for. With that, for resident fee it's not bad. The good: Most of the tee boxes are alright, grass with some rough spots. Some of the tee boxes are sandy, but it's a dry area where the course is at. The fairways are mostly grass, there are a few with some bare spots but not too bad. The sand traps have sand, but some don't have a lot. The greens are alright, grass and the balls roll nice. The bad: Some tee boxes are sandy with little grass. $86 for non-residents and $45ish for residents is highway robbery based on how this course has been maintained and is currently being run. I went on a Saturday around 1000. It wasn't too busy but with no management of player's start time, it took over 4.5 hours to play this course. There were clearly a lot of people that are unaware of golf etiquette ( waiting for the team ahead of them to completely clear off the green on a par 4 course before tee-ing off, hitting ahead on the whites while there's actively another group on the reds, hitting within 5-10 feet of other players). This course is a nice one located at the Eva Villages. It is surrounded by homes but a lot of open fairway so not a lot of risk of hitting them. The fairways are pretty dry but that just gives the ball a little more kick. Staff was awesome and offered a great experience. Pace can slow up on weekends but enjoying the scenery is half the fun.

I like the golf course layout. The tee boxes on a few holes should be redone. The area around the perimeter of the course has been cleared and has improved the looks of the course.

Showed up for 8:52 tee time, teed of around 9:15. Every shot was a 5+ min wait, absolutely ridiculous for a tee time 2 hrs after opening. Left after 9 holes at 2:50 mins. Oh the starter straight up A-hole, and one other item. When I turned the cart in there was about 10 carts at hole 1 waiting tee off. Clearly nobody knows how to run a golf course here. Back to the ala wai where these folks know how to operate a course.

This golf course isn’t pretending to be something that it simply isn’t, fancy. There are a plethora of resort courses around Oahu. The fairways here are in decent shape and the greens are well kept. Especially for the price! To many course on Oahu charge a premium price for an average around. Kudos to the folks at Ewa Villages for staying true. It’s totally okay to be average and not charge an arm/leg.

During the week, not a bad place to play. However, on the weekends, if you have the tee time after 7am, good luck getting off the course in six hours. As the city allows up 7 players in a group provided everyone is using a cart. But that still makes for an extremely long round. Recommend paying the extra money and golfing a non-municipal golf course.

Visitor from Korea and spent $89 w/cart. Visited twice during my Hawaii stay with my wife. At the second visit, the gentleman in office asked me a 'driver's license' when checking in. I am an airline pilot so I played not only the USA but over the world. It was the first time I was asked 'driver's license' to drive a 'Golf Cart'. I left my canon range finder at the cart and I knew it when I arrived hotel. I called to office but they don't have it. It was hangin on the roof of the cart and they can't miss it. I know it was my fault that I left it but still I am very sorry about it.

I gave you three stars basically because it’s really not the best municipal golf course. I think Ted 🎾 Malena has better greens and better Fairway Maintenance. But overall of villages does have a higher difficulty due to the narrow fairways rough fairways, but their greens are in better shape than some private golf courses. For a municipal golf course I think Ewa village deserves a three star maybe 3.5 star. The wait is very short. Always good to just walk on with no tee time. However, there is no restaurant at the golf course and the only beverages are from a dispenser so I would bring my own…

No food or drink. Closed down. Website hasn't been updated since??? 9 hole course??? It's been 18 for a couple of decades at least. Green are fine but sloooow. Watering system is about shot. Maintenance gives up and just moves the tees beyond the mud/dirt areas. Too bad, a good layout rotting away.

Fun course layout and relatively well kept for a muni. But I hope you enjoy six hour rounds with big waits at pretty much every tee box. Played 18 at approx 10am on a Saturday with many tee times open on the online sheet. Multiple groups of 5 and more. 3-4 stacked groups at the par 3s. Tried to skip a hole in the interest of time and a grumpy uncle chirped at us saying now we were gunna slow him down (he was walking and playing at a 6+ hr pace with a full hole empty in front of him). Zero etiquette with regards to pace of play.
