Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta is praised for its well-maintained course, classic Donald Ross design, and friendly, professional staff, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. The course is noted for its excellent conditions and scenic layout, with many appreciating the high-tech carts and attentive service. However, some visitors have experienced issues with management, including slow pace of play and prioritization of members, which can detract from the overall experience.

Review of Forest Hills Golf Club – Augusta, Georgia Forest Hills Golf Club is a true gem in Augusta. From the moment you arrive, you can feel the hospitality—everyone from the management to the membership and even the attendants are incredibly friendly. There’s just a great energy in the building, like you’re part of a welcoming golf family. The cart paths are in excellent shape, and I have to say—these carts are next-level. I normally hate GPS carts, but I broke my own rule here. That’s how smooth, clean, and high-tech they were. Absolute game-changer. Even though the greens were aerated d…

★★★★★ Hidden Gem in Augusta Forest Hills Golf Club is a classic Donald Ross design (1926) and a true hidden gem. I’ve played many Ross courses, including Pinehurst, Mid Pines, and Southern Pines, and this course is every bit as good—at a fraction of the price. It’s also the home course of the Augusta University men’s and women’s golf teams, which says a lot. Course conditions were outstanding, especially considering the dormant season, The bunkers are crisp and hand raked, just like they do at Augusta National a lot of places, Pinehurst included, even on their marquee courses, only die their…

The two stars listed above is for the A+ conditions the course was in, great work by the Superintendent and his crew. However, the rest of the experience today was rather unwelcoming. I, as a single signed up for a 9 am tee time with another three some last night via their online booking system. When I checked in, I finished payng and walked out to go hit some putts. At 8:51 I walked to the first tee and introduced myself to the people at the 9 am tee time (All Members) only to be told that they were a foursome and the pro shop moved me back. I was not informed of this when I checked in so I w…

This is a Donald Ross design that they are struggling to get the greens to behave. If the greens were better, 5 stars all the way. I loved the course, but the greens weren’t good when I played it. Hopefully they have fixed that. The clubhouse sandwich at the turn was fantastic and I’d play here again just for the sandwich.

I played Forest Hills on February 28th and was charged $85, which I felt was not justified given the overall experience. While the course conditions were decent, I strongly advise against playing there due to poor pace-of-play caused by course management. The course prioritizes the Augusta State golf team, and if they take 4.5 to 5 hours to complete their round, other players are left waiting with no intervention from the course staff. Despite spending over $90 between golf and range balls, I received no support from the clubhouse when the college players caused significant delays. The staff…

This is a great course to play. I come here for quite some time now, but was a little disappointed this time as I was charged 30 dollars for my wife just to ride along with me. I think that was alittle much as I already payed online for the round which included golf with a cart.

It’s a fun golf course! However, watch out if you’re nearing night time. The guy that managed the carts after dark was super rude to me and my partner. Other carts were allowed to bring the cart to their car but we weren’t and when we asked to get our score card not even a minute later; he told us “buddy I threw it away” in a very condescending manner.

Augusta, GA is certainly a well-known golf destination. Outside of that course that very few will ever have the privilege of playing, there are a number of great local tracks that the public does have access to. One of these courses is Forest Hills Golf Course, an 18-hole Donald Ross masterpiece that has been repeatedly named “Best Public Course” by Augusta Magazine. Ross designed Forest Hills in 1926, and then in 1984, the Arnold Palmer Company redesigned several holes to accommodate construction of the Augusta University Athletic Complex. In 2004, the course was restored to its original des…

I play here throughout the year when I am in town and it looks like they have made a lot of improvements. Another user commented on the greens. I played here the other day, couple days after the masters, and the greens weren’t as bad as he made them out to be. Some were worse than others, but the pin locations were generally away from these spots, but they are still working on them. The fairways were fantastic. You can tell they have been working hard on it and it is looking good.

Wide open course with lots of cool history. Being a Donald Ross course provides extra street cred.

I live in Augusta and I’ve been playing Forest Hills for years. The “Best Course in Augusta” is an overstatement. The course used to be stunning, but the quality and maintenance of the course and the staff has been deteriorating over the years. Now, in 2025, at an all time low. I’m here everyday and I can tell how unprofessional and untrained some of the assistant pros are. I still have a soft spot in my heart for this course and if they could clean up their image it would be 100% more enjoyable to play. I now feel uncomfortable and not inclined to return to the course.
