In summary

Hillcrest Golf Club is appreciated for its challenging layout and scenic views, with several players highlighting the fairways and greens as being in good condition. However, there are mixed reviews regarding course maintenance, particularly concerning the sand traps and some bare spots. While many commend the staff's friendliness and the reasonable pricing, others have noted issues with slow pace of play and occasional customer service concerns.

The course is not in good shape, bare spots all over the fairways. Lots of dirt exposed. I would not recommend this course right now. It is unfortunate as the course layout is great. It just needs a lot of maintenance. Oh yeah the sand traps are more like asphalt. Hard as a rock to hit out of you dont need a rake as you dont leave foot prints.

This course has great tee boxes, fairways and the greens were perfect. Sand traps are decent. If you get off line then you have a mix of bare spots and hardpan that isn't really rocky so you won't ruin your clubs. There are a few water holes and it's a challenging layout with undulating green complexes that test your putting game. There are some really good views here too. I would definitely recommend.B+

IGNORE the negative reviews, as a picky golfer, this place was amazing. Me and my father came in the offseason (January) since we are snowbirds. The course was in AMAZING shape, it had luscious fairways and amazing greens. I work at a high end country club during the summer and this course rivaled it to a tee. The course is perfect for high single digit handicappers like myself, but the back 9 is definitely more challenging than the front. I still only lost one ball the whole round and enjoyed every second. The gentleman in the pro shop was super accommodating and gave us the whole rundown abo…

I'm from SC and this was my first time in AZ. I booked my round through a 3rd party because I wasn't sure on where to play for a reasonable price. Thank you for choosing Hillcrest! I had a tee time for 11:07am and I thought it was at 10:30, so I was a bit early. My encounter with Ms. Michelle and the counter was absolutely amazing! Her spirit was very beautiful! Thank you, Ms Michelle! I was paired up with a threesome which included Mr. Glenn (who actually works there) and his son and daughter in law. He was an absolute joy to play with. The course, the greens and the people were awesome. If y…

I very rarely write reviews of any kind, but this course deserves some feedback. Probably the course with the absolute most potential to be a great course, but unfortunately doesn’t receive the attention for care and maintenance that comes with a higher end course. I have played over 80 courses in the Phoenix area and while the first few holes are definitely more like a municipal run course, it starts to pick up and become more scenic, challenging and interesting all the way to the end, but still lacks the maintenance all around with overgrown palm trees, lots of dry patches and general wear a…

Pin placement made toughest greens I’ve played! Definitely good value for the price. Besides having mud traps instead of sand traps and the ranger telling us we need to hurry up because our foursome was a hole behind the threesome in front of us. Even though the foursome behind us was a hole behind us as well, all was well.

Don't say I didn't warn you, terrible course conditions and they throw groups out there without thought. I'm writing this review as I'm walking off after 9 brutal holes, paid for 18, so bad not even worth my time to stay. That'll be the only money they get out of me, what a waste of my time. Get what you pay for.

My first time playing this course, and it was wonderfully challenging and well-maintained. The staff I encountered there were very courteous, attentive and knowledgeable. I would definitely play there again.

Worst condition course I’ve ever played in all of Arizona. Greens are like shag carpet that’s been chewed up by dogs. Slowest bumpiest ever and it’s not even aeration season. Just their normal condition. Impossible to putt. Practically fraudulent for them to charge $60 for this nonsense. Never coming back. Avoid…

Fun layout! Tee boxes, greens, and fairways were in great condition. Staff was friendly. Only downside is there’s no beverage cart. However, I enjoyed my round and would play here again.

Decent layout, but like many courses they booked it so tight that we were consistently were waiting on two groups in front to play each hole. Nearly a 5 hr round. Ridiculous.

This course needs a serious re vamp. The bunkers were mostly sandless, either just desert dirt or mud. They should just fill in most the bunkers, They were so hard packed we actually putted out of a few of them. The price to play should have been cut in half to be honest. With some TLC and maybe new ownership this course could be really good, the layout is interesting and the course has potential to be great. The staff are grumpy and also need a re vamp, terrible customer service. I don't think I will be back, which is a bummer since its 10 minutes from my house.
