In summary

Lakes of the North is frequently praised for its well-maintained course, beautiful scenery, and friendly staff, making it a valued destination for golfers seeking an affordable and scenic experience in Northern Michigan. The course layout offers a mix of challenging and picturesque holes, with recent improvements enhancing the overall playing conditions. However, some visitors have noted issues with outdated golf carts, occasional customer service lapses, and the presence of horseflies, which can detract from the overall experience.

We have played this course for over 10 years. We think it is beautiful and challenging enough. We have friends visiting who are big golfers and they always comment on how great the course is and how beautiful the greens are kept. Idk what other people have to complain about but to us that is just insane. Beautiful course, nice staff and ALWAYS happy to play there. It is our course of choice in an area that is known for its courses.

Lakes of the North golf course is probably one of the best kept secrets in Northern Michigan. I'm reluctantly posting this review, as I'm certain that sooner than later the secret will be out and many others will come to enjoy this inexpensive, beautifully tucked away course. Recent improvements to the irrigation system give it much more lush, green fairways and tee boxes, with soft, supple greens that are challenging to not only play the right speed, but see the rolls and lines with the sloping. Another great part of coming to play here is that you can grab a drink and a bite to eat without b…

Affordable, friendly staff, and decent course. The only real drawback is the abundance of horseflies. They are so aggressive and seem to be more and more pockets of them that it can be difficult to focus on your game when you’re continually trying to get away from them. Maybe they could spray or something, idk. I really like golfing here, but last time I was so frustrated and annoyed with the horseflies I only played 9 and left.

If you really need to get out and can’t make it to Gaylord or Shanty Creek, this course will have to do. Not worth the price for what you get. Greens are in good shape.

Golf? We cross country ski here in the winter! Lakes of the North hosts the Season Opener Freestyle Cross Country Ski Race early each December, part of the Michigan Cup Cross Country Ski Race Series. They always have early season snow. The trail is a nice combination of flat and gently rolling terrain. The restaurant is an excellent place for a post-ski meal and a beer.

Golf course was in okay shape. However, not a very scenic course. Way over priced for what you get. There was a group of 7 playing in front of us but we were told not to play as a group of 5. No carts in the parking lot even though the carts are junk and old and the cart path is literally 5 feet from the parking lot. Staff was rude. Over priced….go play somewhere else nearby for half the price.

Been several years since I had been here, it's still in good shape, it played good, staff is friendly. We'll definitely go back.

Course is in decent shape. The Back 9 is wide open, not real challenging. The biggest issue is the ancient terrible golf carts. These were very old and barely faster than walking speed. No exaggeration. Our cart didn't even have a windshield which would have been nice when it sprinkled. We paid $70 for 18 holes and it is definitely not worth the price. I won't be back.

A very nice value course. The first hole made us question if the course was going to be interesting as it’s pretty flat and open, but by the third or forth hole the scenery really great great and very Northern Michigan in style. Can’t speak to the back nine as we only had time for the front but a great deal.

Played this course several times over the last few years and its always been in great shape...this year the course looked as if management changed hands? The staff was absolutely absent in the bar area as well. (Sunday 7/21/2024). Disappointed is under statement.

Unreal. I thought this would be a “decent” course but this truly is a hidden gem. Played on July 4th. They had the flower beds decked out in US flags, decorations, etc. course is in great condition, greens were a chefs kiss. They weren’t too busy (I know, it was July 4th), and the pace of play was great! Drove in from visiting relatives in Traverse City, and the drive was well worth it. Hope to make it back before the end of the season. Great course, friendly staff, and a nice clubhouse. Thanks LOTN, you guys/gals up there have a great course!
