In summary

Morningstar Golf Club receives praise for its friendly and helpful staff, particularly in the pro shop and restaurant, and for offering enjoyable experiences for junior golfers. However, many visitors express dissatisfaction with the course conditions, citing issues such as dry fairways, poorly maintained bunkers, and seasonal playability challenges due to drought and excessive moisture. Some also mention high fees relative to the course's condition and occasional slow pace of play.

We had a very enjoyable round today. The course was in a good condition considering the drought, the staff was very friendly and helpful, the other players on the course as well. We ate at the restaurant after our round and that experience was good too.

We visitedd the club for a Senior ladies golf trip. Everyone was very nice and helpful. We all had a great game and we enjoyed dinner after. Thanks again

I realize that water on the island is an issue. This would reflect why the greens are the only green thing at the course. I'm sure it plays much differently when the grass is growing and green. Unfortunately, there was no mention of the drought conditions which would impact our decision to play there, especially since we traveled from Vancouver for an overnighter and 2 rounds.

I'm giving 5 stars because I care about the local courses we have, but I would give 0 stars for my recent experience. (July 26 2025) Feedback on Course Conditions – Seasonal Playability Concerns I’m writing to express my disappointment with the current state of the course and to provide candid feedback for your consideration. While the marketing and social media efforts this spring—especially via Instagram—were impressive and raised hopes for a strong season, the actual playing conditions do not reflect the image being promoted. Tee boxes, fairways, and bunkers are all in poor shape, yet fu…

Absolutely abysmal. The fairways are like scorched earth, with no grass in sight. The price is wrong; bob barker chime in. Barry the manager is absolutely unhinged. Literally the only people in the restaurant after the round and he asked us to quiet down. We left. We won’t be back. Sad, sad downgrade to what was once a decent course. If I could give it zero stars I would.

Worst golf course experience on Vancouver Island to date. If you enjoy paying $100+ to hit off dirt then come here. We were a bit slower due to it being our first time but the course Marshall still found a way to pester us with his condescending comments about our pace at every chance he got. Karen at the snack shop was the only positive about this course as she was kind and made great food. Do not waste your time here, many better options elsewhere where.

My son participated in the youth summer camp with Tyler Roope and thoroughly enjoyed himself. We recently moved to the island and had taken lessons previously from Tyler on the mainland. What a happy surprise to see he moved to the island too! Tyler is a friendly and encouraging instructor, and his enthusiasm is second to none! He has planned an engaging program to help the kids have fun while they’re learning. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming to the junior golfers at Morningstar. Thanks for a great week! We hope there will be junior lessons in the Fall because we will be back! 😊

Greens were aerated on our visit. Some very difficult holes. Having a local in our foursome was very helpful to navigating away from trouble. The back 9 definitely more challenging.

Morningstar’s usually a gem, but today it was more like a dusty divot. Late-season B.C. drought? Sure. Punched greens? Fine. But $100 to hack through parched fairways and moonscape greens felt like a whiff. Worse, the 19th hole had no beer to toast our survival! Staff were solid, and we’ve had great rounds here before, but c’mon—a discount or a cold one would’ve softened the blow. We’ll be back, but today was a bogey.

Nice course. They don’t water at all other the greens so be ready for fairways that roll forever. Traps are well maintained but as hard as stone so getting out can be interesting, never know if it’s going to fly 20 yards over the green. No Marshalls so play can back up quickly.

Thankful the group I played with made for a good round as the coarse did not. Tee boxes are in rough shape, but look amazing compared to the fairway and don’t get started on the bunkers. The coarse is so so dry, and that’s after three days of rain. Thankfully the greens played decent but that was the only decent part the coarse offered. Having played multiple rounds at other local golf clubs this season, this is not up to par and priced way to high in comparison… driving range was out of balls too but they still collected money from my friends to go retrieve from an empty machine… Do not reco…

I have only played this course twice. The first time was in early April and it was so soggy that it was extremely frustrating to play. The second was in the middle of July and the course was baked dry. The greens were at least decent, but there was no green grass to be found on the fairways. It was such a hot day and the pace of play was slow enough that my wife and I have up after 14 holes. I don't think that I will be back.
