What People Say

In summary

Nansemond River Golf Club is frequently praised for its beautiful and challenging layout, well-maintained greens, and friendly, accommodating staff. The course offers picturesque views and a welcoming atmosphere, making it a popular choice for both casual and serious golfers. However, some visitors have noted issues with course maintenance, ongoing construction, and management, which have detracted from their overall experience.

This course is beautiful with very well maintained greens, fairways and bunkers. Clubhouse is very nice, practice area is above decent. Not the easiest course but by no means intimidating. The ladies at the bar made me a great sandwhich at the turn. Will definitely play here again.

Not worth the money. Can play much better conditioned courses for not much more money. Greens were in fair shape, but the rest of the course was barely playable.

They have some majestic golf holes on this course but some very pedestrian ones as well. When I come to a course that has a 4.6 rating I am hoping that it is championship quality and this course just wasnt; I think it can be though. Like I said they have some great golf holes out there but the course as a whole didnt feel special. The conditions were avg/good. I think if the maintenance stepped up its game this could be a great course. Not bad the for money but far from Va Beach, not sure if I would go out of my way again to play this course.

I should have taken pictures but I didn't. I know at one time this course must have been in a great shape...right now it gets a -5. It was awful. Don't worry about bunker shots, they are nothing but mud or nothing at all. It is a shame, I could see it as being a top ranked course. I will never go back again unless I want to work on my game and that is to pay 3rd of the normal green fee for a round, if any. Sorry for the ugly truth.

Beautiful, pro level course for the average golfers price! Well maintained course, courteous staff. No specials for Active Duty Military, which is surprising considering the number of us that live in the area... but for the prices your paying compared to the quality of the course your playing on, I think it evens out. Members are truly friendly and welcoming. Don't act like you are intruding if you aren't a member. Very nice people to play with. The course itself is absolutely gorgeous! Very challenging. If you can par the 5th hole (Par 4) you are playing great golf...lol) I'm a 16 Handicap, (…

I like this golf course, but they are doing a lot of construction on it right now, including removing the driving range to put in some homes. There is a lot of noise and dust and other things that kind of detract away from the overall experience. Nevertheless, it is a nice course to play when are regular course is closed.

Sad I didn't see the course before all the construction started. After playing once I doubt I'll be back. Driving range was practically nonexistent. One hole you hit your approach shot over an active road!! Seems like asking for someone to get hurt. Liked a lot of the holes, but the intrusion of the neighborhood and construction makes it a less fun to play than other nearby courses. A very localized annoyance: they punched the greens the day before a tournament. Have to recognize the staff as they were fantastic, and the food's not bad either.

One of the top five facilities in Virginia that is open to the public! Great par threes, demanding par fours, and excellent par fives. Beautiful views all around, and wonderful Southern hospitality. Don't miss an opportunity to play this course, there is no better value or golf experience to be found anywhere!

I wouldn’t even give them a star review. June 1st, I had my wedding there which was beautiful. The snack bar coordinator Jessica, was very rude, never understanding. Many arguments and disagreement, which it was my wedding, and I should have been treated better. The staff threw away my wedding cake which cost over $700, instead of contacting me personally they told my wedding coordinator. Brought all my concerns to the owner Mark, seems like he didn’t care after spending close to $6,000 at the venue. I would never recommend to plan an event there. They don’t understand wedding or event indust…

Always loved making the drive out to play here, but the miserable embarrassment of an Owner made a non returner out of me and my group. I've never been disrespected in a clubhouse until this morning. Not just by somebody who works there, but the owner of the establishment himself. It's no surprise the course is going under due to his poor management.

I wanted to thank the NRGC Staff for making my husband’s Surprise Birthday Party a memorable event. The staff was extremely friendly, outgoing and made sure all guests were accommodated and well taken care of. Special thanks to Det Rae, Susan and Mark for being efficient and professional during the last few months of planning. Our guest will never forget this event and thanks again!

For as beautiful as the area is...it seemed like the golf course tried to make it look bad. Greens looked like cart paths. Everywhere you looked that wasn’t the golf course was beautiful but on every tee, fairway or green - it was rough.
