In summary

RedGate Golf Course is appreciated for its affordable pricing and interesting layout, featuring elevation changes and a variety of challenges that appeal to those seeking a casual and fun golfing experience. However, many visitors express concerns about the course's maintenance, citing issues with unkempt greens, fairways, and bunkers, as well as the presence of geese and their droppings. While some improvements have been noted over time, the overall condition remains a point of contention for players expecting a more polished golfing environment.

My motive for playing golf is to have fun. This course certainly delivers. It was $9 to play 9 holes, and it’s a pretty cool course. The terrain is relatively difficult, but that adds to the fun of the course. While yes, the course hasn’t been maintained very well, how can you complain when it’s only $9 to play?! Overall, I would recommend this course to someone who wants a low pressure, fun course, but certainly not for someone expecting a Masters level course.

Wow. That's not a good wow at all. I decided to stop by and play a round on a whim. Boy was that a mistake. I talked with the other guys in my group and they've played there a few times this year and they told me that the course was in the best condition they've seen it in. Huge shocker to me. There's no sand in the sand trap. The greens are covered in ant hills, so putting is quite interesting. Tee boxes are being overrun by weeds. Some of the rough is so long, someone could easily break their wrist. There's no actual care happening. I've worked maintenance for public and private courses, so…

Not sure what I was expecting but for the price of the booking, I was expecting a halfway playable course. The tee boxes were hard as rock, and mostly dirt, could barely get my tees in the ground. Also this isn't so much the course's fault but there had to be over a hundred broken tees in the tee boxes. Fairways were patchy and had a big weed issue. The greens were bumpy, amazingly slow, and ridden with divots. Yeah it's a municipal course but it's pretty obvious it lacks regular maintenance. Also, there is a HUGE goose problem. They'd huddle in the fairways, tee boxes and greens, I was more…

9/1/16 - This course is one of the worst conditions I have ever played at. There was bare dirt in the tee box, in the fairways, in the rough, even on several greens! I didn't see a single bunker with sand in them, they were all rocks, dirt and grass. The cart had serious issues taking off, the brakes were nearly shot and the shocks were nonexistent. I will never EVER come here again when the Montgomery County courses are so much better maintained and cheaper. There was no starter to keep the pace. I will actively discourage anyone I come in contact with to avoid this place.

The layout and use of the landscape, especially the hilly challenges, blind shots, use of water and elevations are awesome. This course, when properly maintained, is a great course to play. Unfortunately, the greens, fairways, rough and sand traps have been neglected to the point that it takes away from the overall course appeal. If you don't mind inconsistent weedy greens, sand traps lacking sand and fairways missing consistent grass, then you will enjoy the course.

Redgate has been in deplorable condition since Billy Casper Golf took over operations/management of the course in 2012. The City of Rockville gave up on the course and put it out to bids for operating and maintaining the course. Casper Golf, whose reputation for maintenance on the course they operate is well known in the DC area for doing little to nothing on most of the courses they operate also pertains to RedGate. The fairways at RedGate are so poorly maintained that the fairways there are the equivalent of the rough at 99.9% of all the other public courses in Montgomery County. Poor mainte…

9/1/16 TERRIBLE Course conditions. Any other MCG course has to be a better option. I think they forgot what maintenance was. Greens are the like putting on shag carpet and if you find a good patch of grass in the fairway you are one of the lucky ones. The best part is with the lack of sand and the abundance of rocks in the bunkers, you get to ruin your clubs as extra punishment. 2 stars only because twilight pricing is affordable. Golf anywhere else.

The tee boxes were in pretty good shape. The fairways were filled in cut nice. The rough was long and punishing. The greens were a little slow, but I like them like that since it gives me a chance to be a little aggressive. There were some pretty exciting holes with some real elevation changes. Since it was my first time, there were several holes I would have played different so I’m looking forward to another shot at the course. When I play at a course for the first time, I call this unknown knowledge my ‘new course index’. I got a 92 with a bogey which I think is a stoke or two below my hand…

This is where I race to after work. Have been doing so before Billy Casper Golf took over and loved it before and after. Before - it was REALLY inexpensive. 20 bucks w/cart for twilight rounds but I admit, although the holes were great (lots of elevation changes, decent balance of water and other hazards throughout the course) the fairways and rough and greens were not that well maintained. BCG has done a great job cleaning up the course, so much so that it almost feels like a different course. If you're able to sign up under one of their membership plans (and can play during weekdays), do it…

Absolutely Horrible ! Grass growing in the clay pits they refer to as Sand Traps, 5” rough slows play because no one can find their ball if it rolls off the fairway, nothing about this course is in good shape. They left all the grass clippings on the putting greens, so no one could putt without cleaning a path for your ball. Our foursome all agreed to quit after 10 holes today. I will never play this course again. Complete waste of money.

Very disappointed. I made an early tee time figuring I would beat the crowds, but as I was called to the starter I find out I will be joined (and carted) with a man, his wife and son who announced, "we're not very good". Now I'm not that great myself, but no joke, mom and dad were each taking 10 to 12 strokes per hole with 2-3 practice swings on every attempt. I tried politely to speed them up to no avail. After 2 1/2 hours we finally made the turn and I had to bail as I was out of time. So I went to the club house the get my rate adjusted only to find out they flat out refused to give me an…

If you have a golf itch and almost any course will do then this will fit the bill. To be honest I played it last year and swore that I would never play it again no matter what. Then the GolfNow app had it for $13 and I figured for the price of range balls hit off of crappy carpet I might as well do this and if it really sucked I would play nine and go home. The course was in pretty good shape and the guy at the desk sent me off as soon as I got there so with no one in front of me I did the whole 18 in 3 hours. Now for the layout, it's dumb. Blind shots with heavy rough on the other side and a…
