What People Say

In summary

Rivers Bend Golf Club is appreciated for its scenic layout and challenging design, making excellent use of the natural landscape and offering beautiful views of the James River. However, many visitors express concerns about the poor maintenance of the course, citing issues with the condition of the fairways, greens, and bunkers. Some also mention dissatisfaction with the management and customer service, suggesting a need for significant investment and upkeep to restore the course to its former quality.

I have been playing River's Bend for almost 20 years and love the layout of the course. You must drive the ball accurately on the first nine holes or lose a ball, but the course opens up a little on the back. The scenery on the James River is great. That being said, the course is now in horrible shape. As other reviews mentioned, the fairways are mostly crabgrass and mud. The bunkers have almost no sand in them anymore and the greens are just rough. It almost looks like they aren't trying any more. Very sad to see this course go downhill like this as it was my favorite course in Richmond for…

This course has potential to be so great, yet it is kept so poorly. Almost all of the tee boxes needing mowing to cut the five grass blades on them, and the greens were bumpier then a gravel road. I don't know what was between the tee boxes and greens, but it sure wasn't a fairway. Bunkers had sand in them when dinosaurs roamed the earth. If I had $10 million lying around, I would try to invest it in this course. The course has a gorgeous layout and is remarkably designed. Excellent use of terrain and the course just flows with the natural landscape. Tons of water hazards, and trees all over…

This golf course is easily the worse course I have ever played. The course has a very nice layout and could be very fun and challenging if the fairways were defined, the greens were kept up and the sand traps didn't resemble miniature swamps. The rough and the fairway were both overgrown and the same length. The brown grass clippings were so thick, your ball would get covered up after it settled in place. There were 10 of us playing and we unanimously decided to quit playing by hole 11. We lodged a complaint with the front office and they basically told us, "if you don't like the course, you d…

This course was probably a very nice course at one time but is poorly kept. The greens aren't kept and the fairway green needed to be cut. The bunkers had no sand. I had a conversation with the wife of the PGA who runs the course and she is super nice and funny. If this course was kept up I would have given it 5 stars.

Let me first say that the best advice I ever received when golfing here was from a young female who said "The course isn't in the greatest shape, don't take it too seriously." I appreciate honesty and knowing that, I went that day, and I a few more times since then. But the reason I gave it one star is because the other staff do not know how to properly let people on the course. If I ask you how busy it is or how the pace of play is, don't lie to me. Then I pay, get out on the course, run in to a bunch of hackers and then end up having to skip two holes, and leave after playing six because one…

The course layout was fun and challenging but the condition is really bad. Tee boxes are horrible and greens are in even worse shape. You can tell that at some point this was a really high end course/facility but it appears that who even is/was managing the property, has not invested anything into maintenance and upkeep in a REALLY long time. Case in point, there is not a single sand bunker remaining on the course... they have all been "turned" into grassy bunkers due to lack of up keep. It's sheer laziness (and while it might save some $$$ in the short term, it doesn't bode well for how the r…

Unfortunately, this course has gone from nice to horrible. The greens are in terrible shape, sand traps are overgrown with weeds, and you can lose your ball 3 feet off the fairway.

wouldn't be surprised to see this course go bankrupt soon. If you can get a good deal to play, it's nice. hopefully, they sell it to someone who cares. it's an embarassment with horrible staff.

Wherever this owner goes he totally destroys the golf course. Please do yourself a favor and don't waste your gas to even go look at it. The worse course ever.

Absolutely awful playing here. The course was not maintained and I couldn't believe we had to pay to play here. They really need someone to come in and dump some money into it. The course has potential, but needs new ownership asap.

Bring extra balls, do not go in the fall as you will lose your ball in the green, or should I was brown/tan grass.

Holy cow this place is worse than my back yard. 10 dollars to walk is too much.
