In summary

Shark River Golf Course is appreciated for its challenging layout and well-maintained greens, with some golfers highlighting its scenic back nine and walkability. However, several visitors have noted issues with the staff's demeanor and customer service, as well as the occasional slow pace of play. While the course is generally in good condition, some areas like tee boxes and fairways have been reported as needing improvement.

Practice putting green. No warm up range or chipping area. Walkable. Consistently miserable staff. Grounds are not the same quality of Hominy, Howell, or Charleston. Plenty of dead areas that feel like you’re hitting off of hard ground.

Fun and challenging. Nicely managed course. Monmouth county parks do a great job.

While the condition of the course is comparable to many local private country clubs, as soon as you encounter the staff, you will be brought back to reality. With a few exceptions, most of the county employees here will grunt at you in the morning and are unaccommodating. Their demeanor is such that you are bothering them when you ask a question or approach the starter. On the course, slow play is permitted (and the norm), but if you wanted to play a 3 hour round at 7 am, you will be scolded by maintenance. I can comfortably say that the motor vehicle commission surpasses the county golf syst…

I’m not one to write reviews, but I paid 79 dollars in county and a friend paid 103 today. The shape of the course was pretty bad compared to the other Monmouth courses. Fairways burnt, chewed up. Tee boxes in rough shape. The areas around the green and rough were in bad condition. I know we haven’t had much rain, but seems like they’re lacking on irrigation. On top of that the cart girl came up to us and had 1 hot dog left and no condiments… This is NOT a 100 dollar course. If you’re not gonna be able to maintain the course well, then drop the prices to a fair level.

Great muni track. All Monmouth courses are good. 18 has to be the longest par 5 in the county. Greens are always in good shape. Fun, fun, fun!

Tee boxes are a little beat up. I suggest moving back from the tee markers to a better area. A little worn around the greens, where walkers travel. Greens in good shape…No range.

One of the worst golfing experiences my friends have ever had. i am a new golfer trying to get into the game and my friend is a very seasoned player. from the moment we got to the course the staff was extremely rude and their tone just seemed like they were annoyed from the start for no reason. After going into the clubhouse they denied my friend (who is 18) a golf cart even after showing ID because we “looked like children”. This obviously slowed down our pace as we had to walk the whole course and the tees are pretty far apart. after this everything was fine until around the 6th/7th hole whe…

As some of the more recent reviews have mentioned, I too have recently experienced poor service from their staff. A Shark River Golf employee purposely hung up on me, twice, while I was trying to obtain a receipt from a previous visit. At my third attempt, another employee suggested that I "didnt explain what I wanted properly", as if that was good enough reason for hanging up on someone. This treatment suggests a lack of appreciation for customers and I would caution against bringing clients, or friends, to this establishment due to the staff's apparent lack of professionalism and courtesy.

Easy access. Not very busy, yet. Course in great shape. Greens very good. Spring aeration scheduled for April 1st. Course will be closed.

Great shape this year. Greens were really nice, rough was umm, rough. Minor Deduction for slightly funky layout with a couple of short par 4s. Pace was decent considering it was Saturday afternoon.

Slow play ruins the game. Ranger drives around and never tells bad, clueless golfers to speed up. Got stuck behind 4 seniors playing the white tees when they can’t hit the ball 150 yards!! Play the Red or yellow one guy must of shot 130. This should be a 3.5 hour round. Instead it 4.75! Monmouth County golf they are good at taking your money, they love adding additional fees too. The course is in good shape however when the experience is so poor it’s hard to notice!!😡
