In summary

Shirkey Golf Club is frequently praised for its well-maintained course, challenging layout, and friendly staff, making it a favorite among both locals and visitors. The course's unique design, with its fast greens and varied holes, offers a stimulating experience for golfers of all skill levels. However, some guests have noted issues with the driving range facilities, occasional slow pace of play, and the need for better enforcement of course rules.

I would give this course 4 out of 5 stars. My favorite thing about this course is the layout and how challenging and unique each hole is every fairway is not just perfectly straight like you see on so many of the courses in the city you have water hazards to hit over and plenty of other obstacles. The greens are the fastest most challenging greens Ive ever putted on which I love. I want to become a member here, but my only complaint about this course Is the driving range/ practice facility. This course uses range balls that look like they were fished out of the lake two years ago and they need…

Course was okay.. Again it is just at the tail end of winter start of spring so I can't be too negative, it wouldn't be fair. They are working on the tee boxes so where they have us teeing off is extremely uneven making drives nastier than normal. Inside of the pro shop is nice, there is a small grill with food offerings as well as beverages. All in all decent course, putting on the calendar for a later in the season round allowing a better review and chance at cleaner prettier course.

The course was in great shape with supper fast greens. I mean crazy fast which you have to live right lol. The track and trees turning this time of year. Breathless. Play was fast staff was spot on thanks again.

This is a beautiful place. One might think theirs not a lot of serenity while fishing there..... but even busy with golfers you're still very much able to relax and tap into ur fish brain. Shirkey's has several ponds to choose from and they must be overstocked or I'm definitely into pro bass status 🤫the staff is friendly And attentive. It's truly 5* but I give 4 because I wish it was more affordable to give more ppl the opportunity to enjoy things Richmond has that they nvr seen up close or experienced. Also the food it's always on point from ribeye and baked potatoe down to a cold cuts and ch…

COVID has staffing to a minimum which is understandable. Pro shop was closed. All transactions through bartender. She was attentive and willing to help, but had to walk her through the process. Found two dirty carts (thankfully). They were out and there was many groups waiting for some to be returned. No cart barn attendants to be found. Had to find range buckets in the shed. Range balls were muddy. That said, the course is still great. Haven't been there in 5 years, and it played just as well as always. Will return again and again, but probably on a deal and during the week when it's not a…

Three years ago I played Shirkey and had to hit knockdown shots off of several tees because of overgrown trees. That has since been corrected. Thought I’d try the course again and was swarmed by mosquitoes all afternoon. Add to that a group of 7 and a separate group in front of us using the course as a driving range and playing really loud music (I’m not opposed to music on the course, but don’t assume everyone else wants to hear it) and I’m not interested in going back, even though it is a nice, challenging course.

They had us start on hole 10, no big deal. They didn't enforce it, at the turn 2 groups jumped in at and started at 1. I complained and was told, "oh They better not, they don't want my wrath." I explained they are there now....I got an apology. We left after 9 holes. Multiple groups of 6 playing as well.......after packing up our clubs and putting the cart away we were giving a rain check for 9 holes....like I want this experience again.

GO THERE ANY CHANCE YOU GET! Consistency of great course maintenance assures that it will meet or exceed your expectations. Greens will be smooth and quick but not lightning fast. Bunkers will be well maintained. The course grasses will always be mown to levels that are reasonable for non-tournament play. I play mostly in and around Kansas City. Very few courses have the consistency this course has exhibited over the years.

Great layout & challenging holes & greens. Plenty of length for big hitters if desired but easier Girard tees also. Congenial staff & open tee times. A must play for golfers of all skills.

A big golf course located in small town. One of my top 5 golf course of all time. It has various holes and elevation changes. The staff at the course has always been friendly. Every time I leave I can't wait to come back and play again.

Out. Standing. Shirkey GC is very worth the drive over to Richmond. Always in good shape and a true test of shot making and creativity. Lots of hills and trees makes you think around the course. Greens were receptive and rolled true. Costs were very reasonable - GolfNow special was $18/per player with cart. Boom!
