In summary

The Thoroughbred Golf Club at Double JJ Resort is praised for its phenomenal layout and scenic design by Arthur Hills, offering a challenging and secluded golfing experience with beautiful views. However, many visitors have expressed concerns about the course's maintenance, noting issues with tee boxes, greens, and rough areas, which some feel do not justify the current pricing. While the staff is often described as friendly and helpful, the course's condition has been a point of contention, with some hoping for improvements to restore its former glory.

played today, phenomenal layout and conditions were excellent. If it’s your first time, bring a compass and extra patience. A few tee boxes needed attention, greens were true and in great shape. We will return, need more recent positive reviews to offset all the old negative ones 👍

As others have stated, the layout is incredible. And like others have said, it is still not back to where it needs to be for it to be a destination again. But compared to some of the photos I saw from a few years ago, they are improving. We had an enjoyable round with a great pace of play. Greens rolled well. Landing areas in fairway were good. Some tee boxes need more attention. $50 price tag seemed fair.

The Thoroughbred course was in the worst condition of any course I have played. At noon, on a Saturday in August, the only maintenance that had been done recently was mowing the greens and they were wet and did not have fresh cups cut. The fairways might have been mowed at some time in the last week. The roughs and tees hadn't been mowed for several weeks and the rough was so long in places that you had trouble locating your ball much less playing it out of the crabgrass and clover. There were areas around the greens where the rough was 6-8" long. The tee markers hadn't been moved in weeks and…

This golf course could really be great….but right now it’s not!! I golfed here last season when the rate was $25. They said they had some problems with the greens, we pushed through. I called this week to see if the golf course was back to normal, the lady on the phone said all greens (but 1) was back to normal and they would be charging their normal $50 for 18 holes. If you can see by my pictures 80% of the greens look like these pictures. The greens are still trying to recover and they are aware. They should not be charging $50 for the shape this course is in. Also where they have mowed the…

Great design. Love the course. Would definitely recommend playing this course to anyone that is in a Michigan area. Had a great time may not of played as well as I would’ve liked. But the course has everything you want.

Extremely beautiful golf course designed by Arthur Hills. His courses are some of my favorites. You will not find a more secluded golf course. I think you could see the clubhouse from three holes. Other than that, you don't see a single house or building. You can tell the staff is putting a lot of effort into the course and property. They are trying to make the Thoroughbred and Doubke JJ a destination golf course. The staff was friendly and helpful as well. I'm sure this course is beautiful all season, but it was particularly beautiful in the fall. All the elevation changes put the fall colors…

Hard to rate this great landscape. Arthur Hills designed course is long and winding thru meadows, lakes and forest scapes. As great and challenging as this course is, it has often suffered from maintenance and service crashes. Currently several holes have diseased greens and fairways. Full practice areas as well as Restaurant nearby.

Great course, awesome design, every hole was fun and no hole was similar, staff was excellent. Greens were perfect. Fairway was a little long but very playable. Senic views on almost every hole. I will definitely be back.

Very well maintained course and I can't wait to come back next year. Very challenging as well so keep that in mind if you are a new golfer.

This is one of the best courses in the Midwest! Are there others that are even better certainly. And while we all know, disease can happen to a golf course, not coming here to play doesn’t help them continue their revenue stream to be able to get the course fixed up. Support Thoroughbred by showing up and plan golf and paying the green fee and be a part of its turnaround. I’ve been playing this course since it opened and it is spectacular and I too want to see it, get back to its glory days! What a spectacular layout! If you’ve never golfed here, you haven’t golfed!

I left a detailed review on the resorts Google landing page. Beautiful course, amazing design, course is in disrepair tee boxes are unkempt and full of weeds. Fairways are okay the rough is a clover and crab grass factory. Bunkers haven't seen any sort of grounds crew love in a long time. Greens, rolled true but damage from the elements, bare patches and dead spots. Not worth the $70 they're asking for to play 18. Not a course in this kind of shape. To bad because the design and layout is fantastic. I was able to copy my review from the review section for the resort itself. Here it is: This…

Just played this course again, after 30 years. I was a little worried after reading some reviews over the last two years, but was pleasantly surprised. The course was in very good shape, and while not as pristinely manicured as it was in the 90’s, it was a fun and challenging day of golf. I’m glad to see them working to return this course to its past glory. Give it a try!
