In summary

Weequahic Park Golf Course has received praise for its recent renovations, which have improved the course layout and conditions, making it more enjoyable and accessible for various skill levels. The staff is frequently highlighted for their friendliness and professionalism, and the course offers a pleasant setting within Newark's Weequahic Park. However, some visitors have noted issues with customer service policies, particularly regarding booking errors and weather-related closures, as well as occasional disruptions from loud music and pace of play concerns.

I played this recently redesigned course yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised with how much the course has improved. A lot of time and careful planning went into maximizing every square in of this small piece of land to make this golf course more enjoyable and fun for golfers and in my opinion, they succeeded. Take for example the decision to turn #3, a round killing Par 5 with OB right, and turn it into a short Par 4 and a short Par 3 to keep the round moving. It was a great idea and well executed with the heavily contoured greens. The new greens and bunkers all over the course are great.…

Enjoyed a 4-hour walk on the course — the greens are in the best condition of any public golf course in the NYC area. A relaxing pace with no pros rushing you to play faster. Truly a great course and highly recommended!

Course is completely remade with awesome approach shots. Some holes have 4-7 bunkers around them

Me and my buddy decided to check out this local course. The clubhouse was basic but welcoming. We didn’t expect a starter to be present, given our green fees were only $28 on a friday afternoon. The starter was a jolly gentleman who made me feel like family. The golf ranger did a solid job of reminding people to keep up the pace of play. My tee time was at 5:20pm, and our foursome was able to get through 9 holes. The course itself was better maintained than i had expected. Greens were in excellent shape for early April. My only complaint is that there was extremely loud music on holes 5,6,7. W…

Poor customer service and zero flexibility for an honest mistake. On 4/15 around 7:20pm, I accidentally booked the wrong tee time (4/16 instead of 4/18). I realized it immediately and tried to call the clubhouse, but it was already closed. There is also no option to cancel or modify a booking online, so there was no way to fix the mistake that night. I called first thing the next morning and was told "tough luck" and I would be charged the full fee with no ability to receive a credit or make a change. I understand having policies to protect against no-shows, but this situation was clearly d…

Played this weekend and course was in great shape. The renovations were a much needed improvement and now it’s a very enjoyable layout. However they shortened the course considerably and I did not find it challenging enough due to the lack of length. It’s still a tight course and you need to be accurate to score well. As always the staff are very professional and friendly. Overall I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

This was one of my favorite courses before the renovation, and even more so now! Probably the most fun course I've ever played. I'm not a long hitter so playing long courses is frustrating. It's nice to have to make shots without needing to use a long iron or wood all the time. Can't wait to go back and play it again!

New course is nice. Slopped greens and they deposited a lot of the dirt to make for hilly fairways. A bunch of trees were removed as well as vegetation so the course is a lot more wide open The reason for 4 stars are their automated shutdown on carts. They have a bunch of no carts zones which straight up shutdown your cart allowing you to only reverse. However the GPS is awful and will randomly kill your cart for no reason. Additionally on 2 occasions our playing partners completely turned off for 5min and was inoperable

Twice now *only on sundays* there is UNBEARABLE music blasting from the adjacent lake/park. The staff is very friendly, and the course is well maintained. It’s unfortunate that you can’t really golf in peace when it costs $100 for two people to play.

New course looks great and plays a little easier than it did before because they cleared out lots of trees. One major complaint is there is no place to purchase drinks with broken soda machines. Pro shop is very limited, no tees, no new golf balls. Would have love to have purchased logo balls or a hat.

Thankfully, I met the course manager, Jerry, who made my experience better. We (2 some, because the other ½ was sent out earlier) were rushed on the first whole, while our pace of play was monitored the rest of our time playing. Finally, the course ranger came up to us after we asked why the hovering, and he said he was told to watch us for our pace, but that we were paced great. The course is up kept well, and a 9:20 tee time was $40. Attached is a video of a maintenance man using a blower while we walked (but also did so next to us while we played (3 times). I've been playing here for 2 yrs…

Weequahic's renovations look great, the course finally has real potential. But within a week of reopening, the greens are already full of unrepaired ball marks. Doesn't matter how much money you spend fixing it up if the same careless players keep trashing it. Then there's the tee time "logic". An older guy in the clubhouse learns he's paired with us, immediately asks our handicaps, and somehow we get bumped back. So two young, fast golfers in a cart get stuck behind four slow walkers taking 20 minutes a hole, nearly 3 hours for 9 holes like its a US Open qualifier. If management can't fix p…
