In summary

Bear Trace at Cumberland Mountain is praised for its challenging layout, beautiful natural setting, and friendly, helpful staff. The course is generally well-maintained, with recent renovations improving conditions, particularly on the front nine. However, some visitors have noted issues with the greens and bunkers, as well as occasional slow pace of play and communication about ongoing maintenance.

If you plan on golfing this course I recommend calling in advance to get a tee time, it is a very popular course and books up daily. The course is challenging with its rolling hills and fast greens.

We were here in March when it was still cold with bare trees & a bit windy, but really enjoyed the course. Was overall nice and challenging to play. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the natural beauty which would be even more gorgeous in the summer and fall. Saw some deer grazing next to one of the tee boxes. Booking our reservation online was very easy. Would play here again

Was a very interesting course did have a lot of up and downs very well laid out, challenging course. Everything look good. Staff was very friendly, Need to offer a military discount, fairways was maintained, greens was a little slow showed signs of heat Stress was not at there best , Like most courses if your greens are not at 100% You should give a discount on play.

I vacationed at Fairfield Glade a number of years ago and played most of the area courses. Bear Trace was in pretty good shape and I enjoyed playing there.

People were great, price is decent, but the greens are in sad shape. Looks like some form of disease has killed off large sections of several greens.

Front 9 is in better condition than the back 9 but still nice. Good club house with nice collection of clubs and golf accessories with a nice restaurant. Great people that are friendly and helpful.

It’s a great layout. The clubhouse is nice and the people working there are great. The state doesn’t put any money into the course and it shows. The greens are bumpy. The bunkers are terrible. The course is beat up.

Staff was super friendly and helpful with me bringing my 95 year old dad out. Course was in good shape for November. Will definitely be back next time visiting Tennessee.

Disappointed. Looked and sounded great. Serious condition issues everywhere were a let down. Major reconstruction getting underway, would have been nice to know in advance. Not worth the out of state premium fees right now.

Course renovations have restored this course very well, however the starter and the ranger need a serious attitude adjustment. Show up for the tee time 40 minutes early and the starter starts yelling that our group should be on the tee 20 minutes before our tee time or else he’s letting the next group play through. Ranger comes around on hole 6 and tells us the course is wide open and we’re holding up play, meanwhile we’re at 1 hour pace through 6 holes and have a group directly ahead of us. Great job on the renovations, but if your staff doesn’t get it together, people won’t return.

I played Bear Trace on an extremely windy day and during winter rates. The course played nicely even though the course has not turned. The staff was extremely helpful and the restaurant staff was engaging and friendly. I can't wait to play the course again when the weather hits. The rates are fair.

It is a fairly nice course as far as the layout, but the price is way too high for what it is. Several dead spots in fairways and subpar greens. For seventy dollars, I would have expected better quality and bunkers without puddles in them.
