In summary

Billy Caldwell Golf Course is frequently praised for its well-maintained greens, convenient location close to Chicago, and friendly atmosphere. The course, a 9-hole layout without sand bunkers, is considered accessible for beginners while still offering some challenges, such as water elements and sloped greens. However, some visitors express concerns about the slow pace of play, particularly during busy times, and occasional flooding issues on certain holes.

I play at Billy C all the time. (Often little to no wait for a walk-in (pre covid)). No sand, some water, mostly straight decent layout and very friendly environment. They take pretty good care of the greens, fairways and rough are a good length. Too much or too little rain can be a factor, especially considering they can only water the greens (nothing they can do when the fairways get dry or the stream floods out 5,6,7). Just keep in mind that it is a muni 9, so pace can be slower. If you're not in a big rush and want to relax and have fun close to Chicago, this is a great choice.

Wonderful thing about this golf course is how challenging the holes are. After the great rains on the NASCAR weekend, the water element is particularly challenging. My parents enjoy having the chance to mix it up with more rigorous turf bc skills show up when a course is not always predictable.

Course is a budget forest preserve course. It’s great for what it is. Pace of play is abysmal waiting for near 20 minutes at each hole from 5-9. Love the course but don’t know if I’ve ever had a good experience on it.

Great 9 hole. Never too busy and can get on as a single in the early evening pretty easily. I also do the Spark League here and great group of people.

Perfect 9 hole course! You can use your driver on most holes, the greens have some slope to them which makes this course a little challenging. Very well kept!

Great course for someone like me that has been golfing a few weeks now. Definitely enjoyed this 9 hole course. Carts are $12 per person. You can book a tee time online on their website.

Decent for early year, casual course, sort of compact, but super convenient from downtown

Great 9 hole, par 35 course on the northwest side of Chicago. I can usually walk the course in about 1.5/2 hours and almost never encounter slow play in the mornings. Of note, there are no sand bunkers on the course and no par 5s. Generally, the greens, tee boxes, and fairways are in very good condition. The rough is appropriately challenging for the course's difficulty level. The course was just aerated in early October but greens remain high quality given the circumstances.

I’ve played at this course 3 times, and each round has taken over 2.5 hours. The pace of play is INCREDIBLY slow. This is a public park district course, so a lot of beginners golf here, which results in slow pace of play, however the course still only spreads their tee times out by 10 minutes. During today’s round, it took us 1 hour to play the first 3 holes, and another hour to play the next 4. After the 8th hole, we left the course as we had already been playing for 2.5 hours. The ranger told us that they expect each hole to take 15 minutes, however they still stagger their tee times 10 min…
