In summary

Cardinal Golf Course is frequently praised for its friendly and accommodating staff, reasonable pricing, and overall enjoyable golfing experience. Many visitors appreciate the course's challenging layout and well-maintained greens, while the on-site bar and amenities add to the positive experience. However, some reviews highlight issues with course maintenance, such as patchy greens and rough fairways, and note that improvements are needed in certain areas.

We recently went to the cardinal golf course nest bar to try their Christmas drinks and had a great time. The drinks were delicious and fairly priced. Our bartender, Linda, was attentive, funny, and extremely nice. We will definitely be back! 🙂

This place is impossible to play. The greens have some kind of a disease when you go to putt you can't because the ball goes all over the place in addition to the fairways are rock solid like playing on concrete. The fairways do not get watered and is t is weed infested. Your style of game has to change too. You have to scoot the ball along the ground to get to the hole because there's no getting under any ball whatsoever. I would suggest they shut the course down for a year if not more put some money into it and reopen. I paid $41 to play with a cart I've played better places for less. I can'…

Worst course I've ever played and I've played some bad ones. Charging over $40 for this goat track is a joke. We had fun regardless but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Terrible tee boxes. Terrible fairways. Terrible greens.

Most greens had many bare patches like shown below. Tee boxes were awful and fairways weren’t much better than the rough. Much work needs done. It could be a nice course, but it’s pretty bad right now.

Nice course, overall. The grass was a bit ahead of the mowers and it was hard to find your ball just off the fairways. I liked the non-level greens which made putting challenging. The course is nice, but they could use more gravel in the parking lot as it is mostly sand and dirt. The cost was higher than many area golf courses at $33/18 holes during the week. There were no senior discounts or special days where you can golf cheaper to draw in new customers. I enjoyed the course, overall.....but they needed more people to mow, which is odd in August.

My favorite course to visit in the Effingham area. 18 holes of fun, the course is always in great shape and the course usually allows you to drive your cart anywhere within reason; unless it's a rainy time of year. The staff is nice and friendly. They have a beer cart that will come up and deliver you some nice refreshing beverages if you need some throughout the course. Great fairway and greens. Putting is much more friendly here than at Fore Way. If you get a good golf cart they have ball and club cleaners on them which is nice, however the new gas powered carts aren't as nice as the old car…

The course sucks for how much they charge. I think they forgot they have a golf course to maintain and improve, and not just a pro shop.

Played Cardinal for first time memorial weekend. Friendly staff gave us great details on the course. The course was in great shape even after heavy rain days prior. Couldn’t ask for a better course for the price. $35.00 18/hole weekend rate with cart. Great place to work on your game at the range as well. Will definitely be back.

18 holes of golf that require shot making and control of your game. New cart paths have added much in the past couple years to smooth get around the course. Not much water hazard but some ponds that require care in shot planning. The fairways are improved over past years... and greens have enough breaks to challenge putts. The greens are not too fast and smooth. they will hold a proper shot. All in all a reasonable cost and a good round of golf.

Crazy to think how much Cardinal has turned things around. Greens this year(2024) were the best i've ever seen and the grounds crew does great work! Bar staff, pro shop staff..everyone has this iconic course in tip-top shape!
