Carlton Oaks Golf Resort

Prepare yourself, this course is tough, probably one of the toughest in San Diego county. Fairways and green are in good shape, and staff is friendly. Great course with great views and lots of challenges. There are some patchy spots if you mis-hit off the fairway, but overall for the price point of around $40-$50 on a weekday, the course is hard to beat for the thrills it brings. Highly recommend, go and try it out!

This review is for the course only, the not hotel. What a wonderful course! Very well maintained! After the rains, the course is vibrant and a really challenging play! Greens are in great shape. Cart path is very well maintained and everything has great signage. Guys in the pro shop were nothing but help. Super friendly! The course is a really hard play, with long fairways and water hazards. This is a well-designed, difficult golf course. It has a rating of 80 for a par 72, which is about the same as Torrey South. Lots of water hazards, bunkers, and long rolling fairways. But it's also a neighborhood course that's been in Santee for nearly 70 years. Friendly vibe all-aroind. More folksy than "bourgie." And at $50, including cart, it's way more affordable than "bougie." Even saw a family of deer walking thru!!!

Course is poorly maintained… I regretted taking my family there. We have been exploring different courses and this one was on our list. We should have and could have spent more hitting nearby Mission Trails or Singing Hills. Except for the Greens, everything was rough (golf carts/paths and driving range included). We were pumped to do a Dye course but this failed spectacularly! Save your money and time and go elsewhere…

This golf course is ok, but there is no oversite on the pace of play. It is broken. There was a marshal, but i am willing to bet he doesn’t golf Not paying $80 for a 6 hour round. This whole establishment is trash

This is a great golf course, reasonable price, and excellent service. Three friends and I had a great time here (carts included in the tee time!) for less than a hundred each. Rare in SD for sure. Our cart girl was busy during our front 9 with a tournament, but she caught us before the turn, and again before 17 and she was excellent. The same one you see on tiktok too! Overall, great place for 18, sand traps could use some love, but sand traps were quite literally built to be avoided. Looking forward to my next time golfing here.

Absolutely not worth 80$. The golf course is in disrepair and mostly dirt except for around the greens. Don’t play here unless you’re desperate to get out for a round. Also expect at least 5 hours even during a morning tee time. This place used to be legit but it’s way past its prime.

this review is of the golf course, not the hotel. Course is a little rough... But priced accordingly. Reminds me a lot of mission trails. Like most budget courses these days, sand traps aren't sand. Some scenic views. Driving range is worn mats hitting to dirt. It's overall decent for the price, needs a little TLC... Clubhouse/Bar was lively and fun.

The course was re-modeled/designed by Perry Dye (son of famous course architect Pete Dye) back in the 80s. The layout is awesome if you pay attention and know what to look for. The course has hosted local tour qualifiers for the San Diego Open as well as NCAA/college tournaments. Tiger played here when he was in his early 20s just before turning pro. There may be a section of a fairway that isn't perfectly manicured or a section of a bunker that isn't perfect... so either nudge your ball to a better lie or get a better swing to hit a good shot off a less than perfect lie. This course was in terrible condition and the driving range is just a dirt lot. The playing conditions were brutal, greens were in bad shape and there was not much grass to hit off of. The only reason I played it was a friend booked the tee time because he saw a video from an employee stating that the course was in great shape. (I guess we have different opinions on great shape). If you are traveling to San Diego and want to play golf, don’t waste your time/money here.

One of the better layouts in SD county with some great risk reward holes like 5, 11 and 16. Unfortunately the conditions aren’t great these days due to a pending decision on a renovation. However, since they do dynamic pricing, if you can get a rate under $50 I think it’s worth the trek. Greens are in decent shape but the tee boxes could use some work so you’ll just have to work with it for the time being.
