In summary

Cottonwood Golf Club is appreciated for its scenic setting and affordable rates, offering a fun and enjoyable golfing experience with friendly and helpful staff. The course layout is generally well-received, with the back nine being particularly favored, although some areas of the course and amenities are noted to be in need of maintenance. Common criticisms include a rough pace of play on weekends and some areas of the course being in disrepair, but overall, it remains a popular choice for golfers seeking value and a relaxed atmosphere.

This course offers a reasonably-priced, fun day of golf with beautiful, rustic views of the East County hills. A little rough around the edges. But so am I. HaHa! Friendly crowd at the 19th. Not over booked. All of the amenities. Just be sure to bring some extra balls, which can get lost when hit into the sycamore and cottonwood leaves. Good times and good on the wallet!

One of my favorite courses in SD, great value, helpful and friendly staff, never seen anyone in a bad mood here. The course has a pretty forgiving layout, with a few challenging holes. The rough can be...pretty rough, but the fairways and greens are usually kept in good condition. If you've never played here, no matter your handicap, it's definitely worth a round.

Reasonably priced day of golf. Fairways were a little rough but the greens were in good shape. Staff was very nice and happy to help if needed. Stopped at the shop after 9 for a snack. The hot dog was pretty good and fairly cheap. Looking forward to going back again soon.

Cottonwood is great not because of the condition of the course but because of the natural beauty of its setting in a valley surrounded by mountains. The course is shaggy with lots of no grass bare spots with more than its share of ankle breaker, and ball consuming, rodent burrows. As long as you are not an index purist and ok with generous lift and place allowances Cottonwood is enjoyable. Paul at the starter station just might be the nicest guy you will ever encounter at a golf course.

The golf course is good, it’s not great, with a lot of potential. The fairways need a lot of work but it seems to be the standard for most affordable golf courses around San Diego. The greens are in great shape. The back nine is fun to play! Some interesting layouts. The staff is friendly and helpful enough to get by. I will play it again if the opportunity presents itself.

Some of the bad reviews on here are serious overreactions. This is a good golf course, especially for the price. It is a little run down, there's a few areas where I think the fairway should be considered "ground under repair" areas that aren't. But it's still a decently maintained course. The staff is friendly. The clubhouse and bar have old school vibes that maybe aren't for everyone... but I appreciate them. The practice area is kind of janky - but it's better than no practice area. The back 9 is excellent and the whole 18 is very good. It's an interesting course with old school course d…

This course is an absolute blast! Great greens today, fun environment, and beautiful scenery. Not a perfect course by any means, but how on Earth could you beat the price for how fun and scenic it is? Old school style pro shop/bar and grill. Seemed fun and like a good place. Driving range is skippable unless you're warming up before your round. A great time with a great course. Amazing staff too!

Course is in decent shape and a nice value golf course. Overall, the facilities need some TLC. I also understand new carts are arriving soon. Staff is always friendly and they provide great service. Food is very good and also an extremely nice value. Keep an eye out for their specials too.

Great value course especially mid week rates. Gives old school vibes and the bar and restaurant always impress. Range is short irons only (150yrd max) and all dirt hitting off mats. Two separate and well maintained chipping and sand practice areas. Wish we lived closer.

This is not a bad course, this is single handedly the worst course I have ever seen. A disrespect to golf and the game. Somebody took dirt, mowed random grass patches, and added a flag in a hole to putt into. If you’re from out of town stay far and clear - waste of money, time, and hopes.

This was once one of the premier golf courses in San Diego County, now the Ivanhoe course is still intact and the greens are in relatively good condition. The rest of the course is not maintained at the highest level. Nonetheless the course is still very fun and I enjoy playing it.

Been playing here steadily for the past 6 years and the pace of play has become noticeably bad. Expect a 6 hr round on the weekends. Hoping the staff can address it. Course and staff are great, and a solid place to play with rising prices.
