In summary

The City of Charleston Golf Course, often referred to as "The Muni," is praised for its historical charm, challenging layout, and welcoming atmosphere. The course features a classic design with difficult greens and scenic views, making it a popular choice among both locals and visitors. However, some players mention issues with the pace of play and occasional inconsistencies in course conditions. Despite these concerns, the course is generally considered a good value, especially for those interested in golf course architecture.

My husband had a great time golfing at the City of Charleston Municipal Golf Course. He golfed with two other men, then another man joined in toward the end of the game. It's a very beautiful Course. I enjoyed looking at all of the scenery and riding in the golf cart.

The condition of the course is certainly municipal standard. The fairways and greens are hard packed to try to deal with the amount of volume play they have I found the back line having some beautiful architectural holes on some nice settings. The reason for the three stars is the volume of play that they permit to happen here. We had reserved the earliest available teatime a week in advance however, we were suddenly surprised to hear about the “”blitz ahead of us where they let off 10 groups of golfers, who all clearly we’re friends with the starter. It pays to be a local retiree…

exactly what a cool, historical town municipal golf course should be. Fantastic layout yet chill vibe and welcoming.

Played the course while visiting some friends. Awesome. Kind of an old school vibe. Very friendly staff. The carts are great they have up to date gps with touch screens and even a radio! The little bar / diner was good but food takes a while so be prepared. Overall great course. Highly recommend and a good value.

By far One of the best municipal golf courses in the country after the redesign a couple years back! no doubt in my mind it's the best course for the money in the Charleston Tri-County area. that being said, for really high handicappers be warned, this is not a golf course to take lightly. The green complexes are very tricky. everything runs off. the greens are so fast. considering some of the greens are elevated and very undulating fall offs, you may think you put it on and then it runs off 30 ft. humbling to say the least ! definitely reminds me of a Seth Raynor golf course . The front nine…

Solid course. Awesome bay views on the back nine. Tee shots are a decent challenge…low cut and firm fast fairways. The challenge is the approach and around the greens. These were some of the firmest fastest greens I’ve ever played on, and super undulated too! Give yourself 4&1/2 to 5hr for a round. This place gets very busy and lots of play

The greens are beautifully impossible to putt. Many times you must play your irons to specific locations on the green. Scratch golfers who are used to simply hitting the green and two putting, wont play well here. The coolest Muni this side of the Mississippi…

This course has a welcome to our neighborhood vibe. Great for all levels of skill. This is a walkable course with very little elevation changes, but don't be confused. All the challenges are in the short game on and around the greens. They have a driving range, putting green and large practice area with 2 large practice greens and a chipping green. Highly recommend.

"The Muni" Charleston Municipal Golf Course Charleston, SC If you're looking for a fun golf course to play straight up for a score or have a friendly match-play, this is at the top of that list. If you're also looking for a course that has some classic details, you can't miss here either. The Muni has been at the heart of public golf in Charleston since 1929, when 120 acres were donated to always be a public course available for everyone. In the fall of 2020, they completed renovations to the course that used Seth Raynors template holes. You can enjoy a Redan, Edan, Short, Cape, Road, Punch Bo…

This Muni has a lot of character. You’ll see guys mention the greens a lot. This is a Seth Raynor design and he purposely made them difficult and interesting. There are valleys and ridges everywhere. They are a challenge to hold and it takes some skill to know the correct approach shot. Out of towners will pay between $30-40 a round and $20 for a cart. The greens could be in a little better shape over all but it’s a Muni, you can’t get angry at them. Holes 12 and 13 are so good and feel like a different course altogether. They have their own Lager as well.

One of the finest municipal golf courses in the country. Troy Miller did a wonderful job of taking Seth Raynor’s architectural principles and implemented them to great effect at Muni. A number of the template holes were charming renditions, especially the Eden, Miller’s par 5 version of the Knoll, the Alps bunker in front of 9 green, the Redan, Cape, Road, Short and Maiden. The stretch from 11-15 is outstanding and exhilarating golf. For the price point, the playing surfaces remain in excellent condition. It is frustrating to pay extra as an out-of-towner, but if you have any architectural i…

Very disappointed in the customer service of this course. Told us $60 for nine holes and then charged us $80 each for nine holes. When We got here . Course was not in good shape and definitely not worth $80 for nine holes. Very disappointing and we will never play here again. Also found out while playing with some other people that do not live here. They gave them the residence rate anyway even though they don’t live here so only charged them $30 for nine holes which that is all that is worth.
