What People Say

In summary

Dunes Golf Club is frequently praised for its friendly and accommodating staff, beautiful natural setting, and well-maintained greens, making it a welcoming and enjoyable experience for both casual and seasoned golfers. The course offers a mix of wide and narrow fairways, providing a fair challenge without being overly difficult. While most reviews are positive, a few visitors have noted issues with the fairway conditions and the need for better irrigation, though these concerns do not overshadow the overall positive experience.

Golfed here twice last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. You can tell the course is well loved and everyone was very friendly. The trees that line the fairways are very generous, they kept kicking my husbands ball back to him. I don't think we lost one ball either time.

The Dunes is a great golf course! Not too busy and good greens. Its the middle road between country club and dump golf courses. The average person will feel welcome and enjoy playing here. Golf carts are nice and fast. Might even see some deer!!

Reasonably priced course, in pretty good condition. Front 9 has wide fairways while the back 9 has some more narrow fairways. Not really long at 5700 yards, but still challenging with some holes needing an iron off the tee.

Very low key, quiet, and not busy. The greens are fine and the fairways are not pure but if you are looking not to be rushed or pressed and feel that you are all alone in the middle of nature this is your spot. Anything goes at the dunes.

An absolute amazing golf course to go too. The owners are awesome. Very polite. The Owners Son was very friendly. Prices are very reasonable. Beautiful course and very nice greens. Went for a Bachelor party and they were very welcoming. Will definitely be making it a yearly event to come to this golf course! Thank you for a wonderful time.

Great golf course! Very beautiful and well maintained. Family owned and the staff couldn't be any friendlier. I highly recommend if you want a course that's rural and beautiful that you give this one a try. I drive by this course often and have never seen a family run golf course this consistently well maintained.

I recently had the pleasure of playing at Dunes Golf Club in Empire, MI, and I can't say enough about this fantastic golf course. From start to finish, my experience was exceptional. The course itself is a masterpiece. The layout seamlessly blends with the natural surroundings, offering breathtaking views of Lake Michigan and the surrounding dunes. Every hole presents a unique challenge, and the well-maintained fairways and greens make for a rewarding round of golf. The staff at Dunes Golf Club deserves high praise. They were incredibly friendly and accommodating, making sure that my group h…

It's been 15 years since I have played the course and I was disappointed. Could not tell the difference between the rough and the fairway. Most of the fairways had grass, crab grass and weeds. Just scraggly. If you were in the fairway we rolled them to a grassy lie. Its like they have never built a proper base for the fairways. I won't come back. Only thing that saved this from a 1 star was the greens. They were slow but in good shape.

Took advantage of a great October day. Rates were a bargain! The course was in great shape. No alcohol sold on site so bring your own. Probably the best value you'll get for a day of golf in the Grand Traverse region.

As long as you keep reminding yourself "this is not a resort course", you'll enjoy it. Definitely fills a need for a reasonably priced, playable course in the area. Just wish people who played it would fix their ball marks & replace divots when possible. Staff was friendly. I'll be back.

This course is perfect for hacks like me; friendly, unpretentious and quite beautiful in a forested setting.

Staff is very friendly and helpful. Course overall is pretty good. The layout is nice. Only caveat is that the greens have some dirt spots, but imagine that comes from wear and tear from the year. Prices are also very reasonable.
