What People Say

In summary

Fort Belvoir Golf Club offers a challenging layout with two courses, Woodlawn and Gunston, appreciated by some for their variety and drainage capabilities. However, many visitors express dissatisfaction with the course maintenance, particularly the condition of the greens and sand traps, which are often described as neglected. While some praise the friendly staff and clubhouse amenities, others report inconsistent service and a lack of value for the price.

The place is pretty comfortable and the personnel from the club house as well as the restaurant are so kindness and service oriented. The golf courses need attention urgently with a better maintenance and professional attention with more expertise in these kind of work. Particularly need more attention to the greens and sand traps. Fairways and surrounding areas are acceptable.

Two courses: Woodlawn and Gunston. Woodlawn is longer while Gunston is narrow and much shorter. Decent for a military course. Staff is hit or miss. If they can maintain the greens it would be a 5 stars but seems like the superintendent doesn’t care for the greens…

Don’t even waste your money here. The greens are in term only. All the greens are chewed up and might have a couple blades of grass on them. The sand traps are rock hard and many of them have exposed concrete/asphalt showing. The golf carts are old and a safety hazard with how much the elevation changes. Our cart would eventually stop despite having the brake pedal pegged to the floor. The 2nd rider in our cart had to get out on a hill so it would be able to clear it. Maintenance on a course is a given but most courses advertise the maintenance and/or give you a discount to play on a course u…

Played the Gunston Course The Good: Greens were in pretty good shape and offered a moderate challenge by design. Pace of play was solid for a Sunday morning—finished in under 4 hours. The starter was attentive and helpful. The Bad: The attitude in the pro shop was noticeably poor across multiple interactions. At $68 a round, the course simply isn’t in good enough condition to justify the price. I’m happy to support a base course and don’t expect Augusta-level conditions, but the overall shape was rough to very rough. At a minimum, a base course should offer good value—and right now, it doesn…

It's an ok course but if you're used to country club or that level of course you will be disappointed. It matches the price. The ground crew seem to be low staffed as the details around course are not cared for and traps not raked where grass is growing in a few. It you just want to warm up and play a course without thrills and a good price this course is for you.

I recently visited the Fort Belvoir golf course and was disappointed by the unwelcoming atmosphere at the pro shop. The head pro who also worked as cashier who had a “mad scientist” appearance, was cold and unapproachable, which ruined the experience. Not sure how a pro can be so unprofessional. It seems I’m not the first to notice this unfriendly demeanor—others can check Google reviews to verify similar complaints. For a military base course, I expected a warm, community-oriented vibe, but that was far from reality. The Army G9 needs to do a better job of vetting workers to ensure they are e…

My family and I have given up on this course. The greens keeping has always been a little suspect, with dead trees left fallen for a year plus. The tee boxes, particularly the ladies tea boxes, are unkempt or at uneven angles. That said, the course has gotten to a new low. I do not recommend it. Perhaps when things green up a little, it might improve. That said, there is no excuse for weed infested fairways and a general lack of regard for the wellbeing of a golf course.

This golf course was so good for so long and now the greenskeeper should be fired. There is no way you can charge $60+ for a course in this shape.

Nice club house and practice areas with nice views and patio, but the course could be in better condition. Nice course layout but needs to be maintained better. The fairways and teeboxes need to be watered regularly and the weeds throughout the course (fairways, teeboxes and green) need to be kept under control. If the conditions were better, this would be a great 36 hole golf course.

Been on Belvoir for four years. Every year the course has gotten worse. Staff is friendly but course is disgusting. Bunkers are gravel pits, tee boxes are dirt pads, greens play like fairways and the fairways are dead, hard pan. 60-70+ dollars is a crime.

Our group plays here every year and the course was in great condition again this year. The day was beautiful, considering there was a LOT of rain the night before, most of the course was drained well, as expected. Have never had any issues with staff or attitudes as they are always friendly and professional to attend our needs. The greens were immaculate and responded well to the rain, considering it was about 3 weeks since they had any. The course still played excellent. The course has a good mix of grip it and rip it, then precision, then be very careful of your selection, so, like always,…

Played the Gunston course a few days ago. The greens are still in horrible shape as noted from previous reviews. Don't count on any of your putts or chips holding a line. The bunkers are seriously neglected as well.
