Furman is always in good shape. It's not the most plush course in the world, but it is well taken care of. The fairways are well defined and in good shape, but usually a little harder. The layout is challenging but not overly difficult. The tee boxes are decent. The greens are the headliner at Furman. They roll fast for the area compared to all other courses. They are undulating and hard to hit. Your short game will likely suffer the first few times you play here. Many turtle shell greens that make it difficult to hold. Course looks nice but is not kids friendly. 16 year old was treated rudely by the bald guy in the pro shop, asking him if his “parents dropped him off?” My child left feeling un welcomed. Do better Furman golf.

We were a group of three and played on a Wednesday. Unfortunately, the pace of play was backed up from the start, even though the Starter came out twice to remind the group in front to keep pace. One player behind us even left early because it was taking too long. It took us nearly five hours to finish. I can’t fully blame the group ahead, they seemed young and were learning, but the real issue appears to be course management. Rated the #1 public course in the Upstate of South Carolina, which is not a surprise. It's also rated in the top college courses in the country. Designed by Richard K. Weber in the late 1950s and recently had a renovation in 2008. This course has been the home of famous PGA and LPGA players alike. Hey my last name is Furman, so I wish I could give this course 5 stars but I can't.. Overall rating: Scenic: 6.9/10 Conditions: 7.25/10 Layout: 6.75/10 It was a pretty solid course, the scenery was pretty basic, a couple of ponds and some nice trees on the property, but you can hear the bustle of the city around you, loud vehicles and stereo systems. This is such an underrated course. I'm an alum, so there's some natural bias. But, I've played courses all over the U.S. and a few dozen of the best courses in Scotland, and Furman holds up very well, especially considering its value. The layout balances forgiveness for inexperienced folks but requires a wide variety of successful shots to score.The fairways and greens are in great shape and the staff are friendly and helpful. Furman use to be an amateur friendly golf course where you could play and enjoy the round but it isn't anymore. The price has gone up to high for the average golfer. They want you to play fast so they can get as many golfers on the course but they cut the rough so high no that one foot off of the fairway and you can't see your ball so you spend your time looking for your ball. Great staff! Excellent practice areas. Rangers on the course are friendly. Pro shop folks are friendly. The layout is great, and course conditions are outstanding! My favorite place to play in Greenville. A great walking course and a large number of golfers there walk. I find walking to be more enjoyable and faster than taking a cart. (If the real feel is below 100!) There are easy rolling carts for rent. There is no on course beverage service but the grill folks will bag up ice and drinks. When visitors come to town, this is where we take them.

Don’t come here if you’re still learning. Got chased down on the cart 6 times and told the dumbest “rules” that they have. Told I needed to play faster to keep up with time when there was literally no one behind us and we were waiting on the people in front of us. Can’t have a child in the cart with you with two adults. Had to to get a whole separate cart. So on and so forth. The lady working the grill was rude and annoyed. I’ve been here 2 times, FIRST + LAST.

Horribly overpriced. Service is average at best. $65 green fee during the week. All greens are atrocious. EVERY SINGLE ONE. No monitoring of pace of play whatsoever. Zero discount to do a 9 hole replay which is unheard of around here. $31 for 9 hole replay. Greer is $15 for 18 hole replay, links o tryon is $20 for a 18 hole replay and both those courses are way better kept. They’re obviously very proud of this course, just not sure why. No gps on carts either. For that price there should be. So if you wanna spend $100 at a golf course for 5.5 hour round where it’s near impossible to putt…. THI…

Played golf and it was fairly busy. Super nice front desk and starter. Upon golfing we noticed the people behind us were playing faster. As golf etiquette we let the people behind us go ahead. We were talked to by another starter about how we shouldn’t have done that, talked to like we were kids, and made seem like idiots. We were instructed we had to miss a hole due to not following the rules. We talked to the GM and they stated it was there policy. So if you head there be aware to not let people play ahead or else you will miss a hole. Nice course but weird golf rules.
