Hanging Rock Golf Club is frequently praised for its beautiful setting, challenging layout, and well-maintained greens, offering stunning views of the Roanoke Valley. The staff is noted for their friendliness and professionalism, and the club provides excellent practice facilities. However, some visitors have reported issues with the condition of tee boxes and bunkers, as well as occasional slow pace of play, which detracts from the overall experience.

My husband and I played 18 holes while traveling in late February between Georgia and Virginia. We couldn't believe what great shape the course was in at this time of year and the price was so low we didn't have high expectations. Wow, were we surprised at the beautiful views, nice golf carts and pathways, quick greens, perfect tee boxes, and manicured fairways. We highly recommend Hanging Rock and we will be returning next time we come through.

It was a fun course to play but the greens and fairways were not in good shape. The greens run very slow there, which is what I wasn't expecting. This course is going downhill since the last time i've been there. It was in the spring so in the summer I'll probably try it again.

Stopped here for a round while coming through town. Conveniently located, in good shape, and lots of slope fun. Pace was really good, and greens are in excellent shape. Great value for the price

I was born and raised in the Roanoke Valley, and moved back in July of 2022 after being away for eight years. Hanging Rock was a favorite course of mine, prior to my re-locating, and after playing there for the first time in almost a decade, it not only tops my list in this area, but is a SOLID top 5 in courses around the country that I have personally played. OUTSTANDING job, guys/gals! I will definitely be back soon.

Pace of play is absolutely horrendous. Three hours and five minutes to play nine holes. T boxes and fairways were poor. Greens were in om shape. Left after 12 holes. Really need a ranger on the course.

Historically speaking, it's a decent course. Currently (October-November 2024) the course is in very rough shape. Probably 2/3rds of its sand bunkers are in disrepair and about half of the white tee tee boxes are nothing but mud. At the moment, it's too pricey when compared to the shape the course is in. Recommend Blue Hills or Ashley Plantation for a more consistently maintained public course in the greater Roanoke Area.
