In summary

Heron Lakes Golf Club is appreciated for its improved course conditions under new management, offering a short but challenging layout with well-maintained greens and fairways. The course is considered a good value, particularly for beginners or those looking to work on accuracy, with friendly staff enhancing the experience. However, some players mention issues with long rough making it difficult to find balls, and there are occasional complaints about course management and maintenance inconsistencies.

We play Heron Lakes often and have for several years. They have made vast improvements on the course in the last year but it could use some more. The greens are much better than since they installed better drainage. The underbrush has been cleared so finding your ball is no longer a problem.. The course is short by anyone's standards that makes the game that much more fun. Could they do better? YES, of course. L For the price of a round of golf, this is an awesome course.

The course is fast and the holes are not challenging at all. Most attendees I spoke too told me it was a good beginners course but I doubt the property owners around the park have the same theory.

This is a short course which is nice. We finished our round in under four hours. Would’ve finished faster but we spent tons of time looking for balls. The rough is so long! We lost tons of balls on decent shots just because they were a foot or two off the fairway in 3-5 inch rough. Definitely conditions for tour players, a category that I assume most people playing there don’t fall under. We asked about it on our way out and they said it is always that way, so we won’t be back.

This course is under new management, and is improving dramatically. The greens are gorgeous, and the fairways are getting lots of attention. It's still tight, but most of the thick brush along the fairways has been removed, so you can find errant shots, and actually play them in many cases. Ignore any reviews before 2016. Yes, it's still a short course, but don't assume it's easy. Top shelf bargain for the price, and it's now a real golf course.

The course is not in the best conditions but like everything you get what you pay for. 7.30 am Sunday tee time for less then 40 $ is quite good. Very short course and you don't play just golf, there is a big "Treasure hunting" component..... I lost many balls and found many balls, I mean also in the fairways or around the greens too.......Super short PAR 65 course, definitely for those very consistent golfers (clearly not me) who can hit straight and accurate. They have a course challenge with a dollar prize if you do Hole in One at hole 6, I am pretty sure they have cameras on that hole. Nice…

Played twice in the last two weeks. Greens in good condition, tee boxes all reworked - as others have said the rough has been cut and cleared and finding lost balls much easier. Course is short, but not real easy. It looks like new ownership is spending lots of effort to improve this course. Good value. Never ran into any one laying on greens or dogs on the loose.

Fun little course that is easy to access. The price is good for what you get. The course is short but can be challenging. Par is 65 and even that is pretty generous. I think it is best described as "in between" a Par 3 course and a full on traditional golf course. My wife is a high handicap and she enjoyed the course enough to not get frustrated. There are no bunkers, but there is plenty of water and other hazards to look out for. If you're a longer hitter you won't be using your driver much (unless you are pretty accurate), but its a great place to work on shorter aspects of the game.

Short course with no par 5s. Water on many holes, even if you have a decent drive you can find a hidden pond. Pace of play was good. Rates were great as we booked on Golfnow. Greens looked horrible but didn't roll too bad at all. Staff was friendly. Overall good value.

Good enough course. If you are a beginner then it may be tough as lots of water and houses! Relatively quick to get a round in. There is a small club shop where you can rent equipment. All the carts looked new. It's also very close to a feeder road so you risk hitting the road (as I did)!!

Have played here for the last two years and the transformation of the course under Swanson has been remarkable. It will always be a short course but the conditions are so much better and continue to improve. The heart of the course is the condition of the greens and they are now quite good. The Tee boxes are in good shape and now they are cleaning up the fairways. Give it a try.

I recently played here for the first time on Sunday 7/19/15. I was definitely expecting worse, based on the reviews, and ended up playing at a well maintained golf course. I never saw high grass or crappy greens as a few mentioned below. The reason I gave it 3 stars was because there weren't many par 5s. infound the course to be very tight; it definitely will help bring my accuracy up!

Nice track and cleaned up since new ownership came in. Like that it's short and good for a faster round. Real good rates, especially for seniors weekday play. Gives me all the challenge I need too. Recommend!
