In summary

Houston National Golf Club receives praise for its friendly staff, well-maintained greens, and enjoyable layout, with some visitors appreciating the reasonable green fees and included amenities like lunch. However, many reviews express dissatisfaction with the overall course maintenance, particularly the condition of the bunkers and fairways, as well as issues with the golf carts. Some guests also report negative experiences with customer service and management.

Character killed by lack of care. The golf course has a lot going for it. The layout is interesting and can be a good challenge. The greens and tee boxes are well maintained. The staff are friendly, and there’s regular refreshments on offer from the cart coming around while you play. Unfortunately, the course itself is so poorly maintained that it really ruined the experience for me. Pretty much none of the bunkers seem to be in play, given how poorly cared for they are, with many not having rakes either. If your ball lands in the rough there’s a good chance you won’t find it because of the…

Spending $100+ here felt like dumping money into the water. The driveway and greens were poorly maintained, exactly as shown in past photo reviews.

Played a round at Houston National April 8, 2026. Green Fees are too high given the poor maintenance of the course. Extremely disappointed with the maintenance of the course - sandtraps not racked (should be fluffy, not hard and flat), too many cart-trampled paths onto the fairways. Greens were in pretty good condition. Fairways need lots of work. Play flowed well. My opinion is that the fees do not match the quality of the course. Staff was friendly and carts are nice.

Played Houston National for the first time yesterday. Greens fees were very reasonable and included lunch! Pro Shop employees were super friendly and helpful. The carts were very nice and comfortable with GPS. Only issue was parts of the course around holes 7 and 8 where I was on the cart path but the cart said I was in a restricted zone so I had to drive backwards to the 8th tee box lol. Overall the course was in great shape with just a few dry areas due to little rain this Fall. Greens were great, and challenging lol. The slope of the greens definitely made it challenging. The bar and grill…

Early Tee time, on a Monday. Range balls included, so I stopped there for a quick warm-up. Solo player, so it was a fairly quick round. Fairways were nice, and greens were very well kept. Lots of undulation, so keep everything under control, and you can score pretty well. It was a dewy morning, but overall, it was a great course. Stopped in for the included lunch after the round (when you book through Houston National, not golfnow), including chips and a beer, if that's your fancy. Well worth the price of the round, all things considered.

We felt discriminated against during our visit. We checked in and paid for 18 holes, plus an additional golf cart, yet a staff member accused us of not paying without any verification, which was insulting. We were told to leave because we shared one golf bag and started on the back 9. We started on the back 9 only because the front 9 was completely backed up at our tee time, and there is no policy on the official website or explanation at check-in regarding these restrictions. We completed the back 9, but when we attempted to play the front 9, we accidentally entered the wrong course and wer…

Do not waste your money here. They’re insane for asking for the price they charge here. Fairways are a mess. Rough is awful with basically grass you would find in someone’s back yard. The traps are absolutely unplayable, have weed plants in them the size of a cow. Most greens are in okay condition. Course is in horrendous shape. Shame to see. Do not waste your time here.

We played here 11/6 with start time of 8:am. I have to say the poor reviews are unjust. Sure the bunkers need attention but the rest of the course is very playable. We had a lot of fun and will definitely be back. You'll meet Melissa in the club house after your round. Worth it!

Very disappointed today with Houston national on the public course. While the greens were well maintained, the rest of the course was in terrible shape. Bunkers with sand that hasn’t been taken care of in quite a long time. New golf carts had issues because you would be on the path and the cart would shut down like you were in a forbidden area. Overall, very disappointed when paying that kind of money for a course in that bad of condition. Especially when I live very close to the course. People were great. Just course in poor condition. Hope things turn around there.

Played 10/10/25. This course needs serious TLC. Fairways were dried out and roughs were not maintained. I think Southwyck had some better looking holes. Price point was that of Black Horse and it was nothing near that quality. Super disappointed. Only giving this two stars because the grille had great food and service.

The greens were excellent. The rest of the course was terrible. The contrived mounding along both sides of the fairways is a joke. The fairway grass was almost none existent. I'll only go back if I can't get any other tee times

Not once did we have a cart girl. When we stopped after the 9hole for food and drinks, they were out of everything. Had to ASK to have the food refilled when others notice it was empty as well. We got some drinks at the club house and I stated will a cart girl be around and they said they would send one. Never came. Terrible service, and nothing but kids riding their dirt bikes and personal golf carts around, all about 16 or younger. Very unprofessional. Will not be back and this was our first time.
