What People Say

In summary

Hillcrest Country Club is praised for its historic charm, challenging layout, and well-maintained greens and bunkers, offering a rewarding experience for golfers. The staff is frequently highlighted for their friendliness and accommodating nature, and the venue is also noted for hosting successful events like weddings. However, many visitors express concerns about the poor condition of the fairways and tee boxes, which detracts from the overall golfing experience, and the lack of a driving range is also mentioned as a drawback.

I don't care for the golf course. While it's similar to Swope park golf course in the terrain and slanting fairways, playing the course well requires a lot of playing and shot strategy that makes playing golf less fun for me. For example, most par 4/5’s require hitting shorter tee shots and longer approach shots... That is unless you hit long tee shots and can make ridiculous second shots where the ball is below your feet and you're hitting up to an elevated green and you're just awesome at that shot. Greens seemed soft but fast, and there was a lot of turn in every put, which made putting a r…

Fun course but the fairways are unplayable on numerous holes to the point I moved to the rough so I could hit off grass instead of dirt. The greens were rolling quickly and it was tough to hold any approach shot so it was almost links style course. The picture is of hole 14 which is a 155 yard par 3 with water in front and left of the green, sand behind green, and very difficult terrain if you go right. Easily the best looking hole on the course but also notice there isn't a fairway which is the primary issue at Hillcrest.

We got married here and I can't say enough good things about this place. The wedding was flawless and the people who helped us were so knowledgeable that the wedding went perfectly. I wish I could go back and do it all again.

Greens and bunkers in great shape but the fairways like others have said are unplayable. Just a bunch of dirt and weeds. Better off hitting in the rough and for the prices they charge I’d go somewhere else. If the fairways get fixed then it’s a very good challenging course.

On my visit to KC Missouri my cousin toke me to Hillcrest Golf Course. I'm a beginner so I only participated in the driving range. Beautiful course and driving range. The cost for driving range was cheap.

Good Donald Ross track. Grounds are a shambles but the people are nice and its a very good track. In nice shape especially for the time of year.

Awesome golf course. Under renovation, but surely to be better than ever once re-opened. As their most recent hole-in-one on #7… I’d say it’s a pretty fun course 😉

This is a Grand Lady and needs to be treated as such. We've been through 1 bad drought last year and little rain to follow up this year. The traps are well maintained and the greens are outstanding. Remember, this course is well over 100 years old and we are lucky to have it in KC!

Honestly, I was really disappointed in the overall condition of the course based on the cost. The layout is fun and challenging, but it doesn’t look like they put a dollar anywhere but the carts, greens, and bunkers. Almost every tee box was chewed up and not always flat. There were several areas on the tee boxes, fairways, and around the greens that have diseased grass, which is unsightly and not fun to hit off. As for the fairways, some were good, some were okay, but the majority had dead spots in several areas. The same can be said for the rough, so many spots were just mud and you couldn’t…

Great old course in Kansas City. Unique layout with tons of slope on the fairways. Tee boxes are rough and need to be redone. No driving range at the course makes warming up tough. Still a nice course to play that isn't usually very busy

Staff was absolutely pleasant and accommodating; as for the course, had some challenging holes that required the right shots which I loved as a guest. Greens ran pure even for the time of year. Would definitely recommend to anybody that needs a good humbling of their golf game!

Great old school track! The good... Greens are excellent and fast, fairways great shape, rough is long and thick, bunkers are well kept with new white sand, tee boxes in mostly good shape have a few that need some tlc. Has a few wash out spots on the course but it seems they are working on them. The needs improvement...pro shop and snack bar is stocked very limited and probably won’t win any awards for the most friendliest place..overall a really good course the test your game.
