In summary

Joe Wheeler State Park Golf Club is appreciated for its scenic layout, abundant wildlife, and overall value, making it a popular choice for golfers in North Alabama. The course is generally well-maintained, with particular praise for the fairways and greens, although some reviews note that the greens can be hard and challenging to hold. While the staff is often described as friendly, there are occasional concerns about slow play due to large groups and inconsistencies in course conditions, particularly off-season.

We're playing this out of season and it was still really fun. Lots of elevation. I'm from Florida and none of the courses I've played in this area are easy layouts. And this is no different. The Gold(senior) tees are 6000 yards. Gorgeous layout in the hills of North Alabama. Even though the tee boxes were a little beat up as long as you're on the fairway theres grass to hit off of. If you're off the fairway you may have to move your ball as there are a lot of dead areas that are dirt. In season this maybe be a different scenario. All of the greens were in great shape. These are a little slower…

Good course for the value. My only complaint is, they have always been bad about allowing 5+ people in a group. I can remember several times having to skip a group with 5 or more. One day in particular, this group had SEVEN. They may not allow people to book that many, but they turn a blind eye to it if groups join up after the 1st hole.

The General Golf Course Rogersville, Alabama 35652 We played The General for the first time during a recent visit to Joe Wheeler State Park and must offer, the course played beautifully, in great shape for the month of October and the Clubhouse folks were friendly and personable. Our golfing experience was top notch! Overall, the fairways are in great shape - not the most challenging, but will keep you interested. Not much water or water features, fairways are somewhat straight with a little wiggling and curves to keep you from just hitting all out and following your ball. The Tee Boxes are…

If you have not been her in a while or you are passing thru please stop. The course is in the best shape I have ever seen it. Greens are great and the fairways have always been good. The super is doing a great job on more than likely modest budget. Could be one of the best courses in north Alabama, try it you will like it.

Overall it's a great course when it's manicured correctly . Right know it's in great condition. The only thing I have bad to say about it is that the greens are hard and it's tough to get anything hold unless it a full shot in and even then cam still be very challenging . Rain helps soften it sometimes But they have come a long way over the last couple of years. The Greens will continue to get softer over the next few years if taken care of correctly and then I would give it 5 stars considering the Good prices.

I have played and loved this course for over 20 years. It’s so sad to see how it has been so poorly managed lately. We all rejoiced when they got new greens about five years ago as this was the only knock on the course. New greens turned out hard as a rock and almost unplayable being too hard to hold even short irons. We were promised they would soften up. That never happened. ☹️ Course personnel were warned that if they continued to neglect and failed to water they would loose the greens. Now five years later the greens are in horrible condition. Several are almost nothing but dirt. It breaks…

The general has several rates to play golf. If you are part of the "Anderson Group" you pay a lower rate than the rest of us. I have asked the cashier why and he referred to the director who says they get a special rate on Monday & Wednesday to generate more play. In my opinion everyone should have to pay the same amount with exceptions to REAL tournaments and Seniors. And if they are wanting to increase play they should focus on improving the course. This seems to be the answer for the better courses. Build and they will come !

The course was a good lay out but. There fairways and greens were horrible. The fairways weren’t short grass. It was not and beat up. There greens were the worst. Super long not smooth and short. You have to hit a hard putt for a 5 foot putt very bad experience.

A true buried treasure. This serviceable course sits well back in a park known mainly for fishing and outdoor activities. Okay, there are a few holes that you won't write home about, but many more that slope over gently undulating terrain beside handsome woods. Very low price point, which offsets the remote location.

Nope. Not a great experience. The fairways and greens were messy and not well maintained. Really believe the fairway maintenance guy or girl should be let go. Not doing a great job. The girl at the front desk was nice though.
