In summary

Newton Commonwealth Golf Club is frequently praised for its well-maintained course, challenging layout, and friendly staff, offering great value for golfers near Boston. The course, designed by Donald Ross, features unique elevation changes and scenic views, making it both enjoyable and demanding. However, some visitors have noted issues with slow pace of play and the challenging terrain, which can be difficult to walk without a cart.

Great course which is well maintained and quite accessible right outside of Boston. The new bunkers bring additional challenges to the course. As a frequent golf traveler, I look for a course in great condition, good value, a fair test of golf with reasonable challenges and most importantly an engaging /welcoming team. Newton Commonwealth meets that criteria.

The Newton Commonwealth Golf Course is a fine course. As it is right outside my back door, I play it frequently. When I wake up in the morning I enjoy hearing the sounds of drives, chips, and putts. It is well maintained, though be aware of the steep slope that the course is on. It is a great deal for students, only $25 for 18 holes. Push carts and golf carts are available. Plenty of parking near the clubhouse and the first tee.

Im all for trying to make a shorter course like this difficult but I think most will agree this pin is not within reason… not the worst course ever, certainly not the best

This is a well-maintained public course designed by Donald Ross that my friends and I frequent. Separately, on a windy day, a tree branch fell on our parked car and cracked our windshield. Albie, the course manager, was incredibly responsive and helpful, and immediately followed up with his insurance and made sure we had a replacement free of charge within a week. That's not a level of service that even some private courses provide, and demonstrated the integrity and customer service of the staff on-site. I would recommend visiting this course to anyone, locals or visitors to Boston!

EDIT: In response to my one star review, their admin said: "Dustin, thank you for your detailed long review of 1 star. We will completely ignore this." That's fine with me because I don't review for businesses, I review for consumers. And, given your snarky, "well actually" and "that's out of our control" responses to anything remotely negative that reviewers say, it seems that in practice, you might also ignore long detailed reviews as well. If you want to know, my gripe is your choice to send groups off of the front and back nine. So, a person can start on 1 at 6AM in the summer, and get t…

Great condition on the fairways but horrible green due to ongoing work but lots of sand which make it completely awful to put. Nice view early am though.

“State of the art driving range” “Mint condition range balls” 3 minute tee times where a struggle but I was able to beat Albie’s course record. Owen was on my ass all day but I was able to sneak in a few outside beers while he wasnt Looking. Maybe he should go back to spirit airlines

Course is short and very hilly, but overall in good condition. It can be challenging with few opportunities to have a layup with a flat lie. Pace of play can really vary, but overall seems to be slow, so prepare for a long afternoon. If you plan on walking, expect to be tired because of the constant ups and downs of the hills. For the price, it was a great deal.

First I want to say I am not mad at the quality of course you get for $35 round of 18 holes while walking midweek. It's a dog track as expected, however the layout of the course is narrow, hilly, and overall dificult which makes it fun to play... until you arent allowed to use your driver on any of the 300+ yard holes with signs everywhere saying they will sue you if you hit a neighbors house. The groundskeepers were also mowing the whole course while a tournament is going on. This course is also extremely unwalkable. From the confusing tee box layout to the massive hills, and even them requir…

I believe this is a solid golf course and is good bang for your buck. Definitely not the longest golf course out there, but it challenges you with the sloped fairways, forcing you to adjust. Some of the holes on the front 9 have blind tee-offs, so if you're not comfortable shot shaping as needed, I recommend playing a shorter club. The greens play on the faster side and are overall pretty well maintained. So far, the best golf course near the Boston area.

This place is great because of the golf and the 3 boys who run kangaroo golf on youtube. My favorite golf youtubers. Their skits are the best and are always funny. The course was also in great shape.
