In summary

Northern Bear Golf Club is frequently praised for its challenging yet fair course layout, well-maintained fairways, and friendly, knowledgeable staff. Many visitors appreciate the amenities, including GPS-equipped carts and a well-stocked pro shop. However, some reviews mention issues with the greens' condition and occasional maintenance disruptions, which detract slightly from the overall experience. Despite these concerns, the course remains a popular choice for its scenic setting and engaging design.

Ive been wanting to play this course for a few years now and when I came to town it was on the list. Great course. Excellent grass range and practice green. The course had a spectacular layout challenging but fair. The starter and staff was great, carts were great, and their temporary clubhouse was good. Im very excited to see what they do with their new clubhouse in the future as I didn't get there before the fire happened.

Fun course to play! Right mix of challenge and beauty! All staff we talked to were super friendly. We hit the range before and love the ball pyramids. Highly recommend this for any type of golf day - short drive from the City and totally worth it.

Good course, tough, fairways are ok, greens are decent, not in best shape but ok. Staff very friendly, marshal drove by every 3 holes, you get a free bottle of water and 3 Ts per person, carts have GPS, flyovers, distances and food and drinks. If you want to practice your bunker shots this is your course because there's at least 3 per hole.

Really like the layout of the course. The tee boxes and fairways were in good shape. The greens were not so nice. The ball rolled really well but I think it might be winter kill. The sand traps are pretty thin on sand. One of the traps had weeds growing in it. I think for the price the course could have been in better shape. The pro shop had some good sales. Staff were awesome!

We played Northern, Bear 3 days ago only because they had a great deal. We had heard that it was not in good shape and suspected as much because of the 58% discount. The regular rate is $119 we paid $49. At least they were honest about the condition of the course when we booked and spoke with the starter. The round started off promising as the first few holes were not too bad, The tee-boxes where okay, typical of most public courses in the area, but not too bad. The fairways were the best we had ever seen them, they appear to finally be maturing, lush and green. The first few greens had some…

Absolutely top-tier golf experience at Northern Bear! From the moment we arrived, the pro shop staff were welcoming, friendly, and super knowledgeable—they set the tone for the day. Shoutout to the back shop boys for keeping everything dialed and making the start seamless. The course itself is unreal—challenging but fair, and the greens were in phenomenal shape. Major props to the cart girls, who were super friendly and kept the drinks flowing with great service and good vibes. Overall, a world-class experience all around. Can’t wait to come back. Northern Bear is truly one of the best in the…

Early in season but super nice course.. wide fairways lots of sand fair bit of water hazards.. greens are big but not to be taken lightly. Power carts are well maintained and all have ball wash, USB port and GPS.. I'll definitely play this course again

I have played this course a few time over the years, and this year I am very impressed. The course is in great shape this year! Fairways and greens in excellent shape. I think it is the best course to play around Sherwood park right now. Will be playing it again 100%. 👍

Played this course for the first time and luckily we were paired up with someone who knows it well as he was able to give us pointers on where to go. Lots of areas to trap or loose your ball. Their bunkers can be intimidating but only one way to get better. They had the maintenance crew out in full force while we were playing so there was some minor distractions, greens were in good shape. Its really too bad they lost their beautiful club house. Looking forward to the next round.

This is one of our favourite layouts around the capital region. 6-7-8-9 is a great stretch of holes. The new HP has the place rocking. Good selection in the shop. Tough place to get a tee time tho! #fourjackpodcast

My first time golfing Northern Bear was very good. It's a beautiful course. The green's were fast - a challenge (#10 was in poor condition)!

As an avid golfer, I thoroughly enjoyed playing this course. The layout strikes an excellent balance between fun and challenge, offering a nice variety with both open fairways and narrower sections that keep the game engaging from start to finish. The only feedback I would share is that during my last visit, preparations for an upcoming tournament were underway, and the noise from scaffolding work could be heard throughout the course. It may be worth considering scheduling this type of work during evening or night shifts to avoid disrupting the experience for players who are paying for a qual…
