In summary

Old Tappan Golf Course receives praise for its well-maintained conditions, challenging layout, and friendly staff, offering a pleasant golfing experience with good amenities, including a restaurant and pro shop. However, some visitors express concerns about the behavior of the course ranger, issues with the course's 9-hole layout requiring replay for a full round, and occasional maintenance work impacting play. Despite these criticisms, many appreciate the overall setting and atmosphere.

It appears many others have encountered the “rude ranger” here. First time playing this course and i”they were actively repairing bunkers. I encountered a heavy machine operator in a back hoe digging out a bunker, literally swinging the shovel piece over cart path so I avoided area and drove across fairway and parked on opposite side. All of a sudden the ranger comes flying up on his cart and berates me, even after I pointed out the risk. He continues raising his voice and says he will throw me off course. My foursome was absolutely stunned. For $85, I get verbally abused and play on a course…

It’s a lovely golf course but the way to get in and out is horrific for anybody who has any slight knee or back problems. It’s terrible. On one side they’ve got a really big incline and decline and the other set of stairs that are ridiculous.

I have to agree with the most recent post prior to ours. Not a good place to play for non members… I rarely leave reviews, and when I do they are almost always positive. I had a very nice call when booking for 3 people; however, at the same time, the ranger was rude and felt like he was doing his best to make sure we did not enjoy our time. We played just over a 2 hour round (9 holes) and he rushed us on nearly every hole. If he was not rushing us, he had a chirpy comment (“slowing us down” even more). Tried pretty hard to be nice to the guy too.. but again, when we play a 2 hour round and the…

The course marshal was extremely rude, telling us to hurry multiple times while we were already waiting for the people in front of us, literally yelling at us for making a mistake in where we parked the carts on one hole because we had never been there before. Impossible to relax and have fun. Course itself was in terrible shape as well. First and last time I'll play there. Brutal.

ATTENTION: Be cautious of potentially toxic rangers or staff, especially if your group is new to golf or non-white. Our experience at this course was unfortunately ruined by poor treatment that felt both rude and discriminatory. On the first hole, a ranger approached us and told us to keep the gas cart in front of the group, not behind. This was unusual to me, but we followed his instruction. He then said to me, “No lesson, I’m watching you.” I would have been stick to my mom and sister, if I gave them a lesson. We had separated due to our tee shots and were getting ready for our second shots…

Great staff, well maintained course. Only 9 holes but you can reserve a tee time to play it twice. Fun and challenging enough to make play valuable for players of all experience levels. Full bar inside, well stacked pro shop with club gear, nice covered patio overlooking the course. Reasonable prices on everything. Cant wait to go back.

The course is decent for a public facility, but there's a notable issue: you pay for 18 holes, but it's only a 9-hole course. This means you have to replay the front 9, leading to delays as new players tee off on the 1st hole. It's an unusual setup. Aside from this, the course itself is quite good. Please also note there is no cart person with drinks or food so bring your own.

Have played several times with my brother and friends. The course is challenging and in excellent condition. The sixth hole par 3 is spectacular and fun. It is about 100 yards uphill and blind shot. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Restaurant is very good.

$110/ pp….pretty trash for the price. I understand Bergen county is pricey but for that, come on. Cut the grass at least. It was like playing in the jungle. A very expensive jungle.

Disappointed by Sudden Charge for Monitor Screen at Old Tappan Golf Range Review Text: I’ve been coming to Old Tappan Golf Range regularly and have always appreciated the facility. However, I was quite disappointed during my most recent visit. The monitor screen that displays ball flight data — which had always been available for free — is now suddenly being charged at $2.50 per use, without any prior notice or clear signage. This feature is a key part of practice for many golfers, and it feels unfair to make it a paid feature without properly informing users in advance. I’m not against payi…

I come once a year for a golf outing and have an awesome time. Good food, beautiful course, and friendly folks. Not much to dislike here. 🙌🏼

Played this course for the first time the other day and was pleasantly surprised. Formally, strictly a private 9 hole course tucked in the upper right most part of NJ. It now allows some Teetimes to the General Public. We played the 9 holes twice for the full 18 holer Then we at the restaurant which was excellent. The course was in very good shape and the staff was excellent.
