In summary

Otter Creek Golf Course is frequently praised for its well-maintained conditions, friendly and accommodating staff, and excellent amenities, including a nice clubhouse and restaurant. The course layout is appreciated for being both fun and challenging, catering to various skill levels. However, some visitors have noted issues such as slow pace of play, maintenance of bunkers, and occasional GPS-related cart navigation difficulties. Additionally, there are mixed reviews regarding event management, particularly concerning alcohol service policies.

Randomly stopped here on a road trip after looking up best courses in Iowa and stumbling upon Otter Creek. Honestly, no clue how this is even in the conversation with the top courses of Iowa. It’s an average-plus quality course crammed between the interstate and homes where nearly every drive has the potential to end up in someone’s window. Maintenance is average minus the greens which are superb. Extremely slow pace of play, even on a Monday with a 30% full tee sheet. Good value, but nothing to write home about.

Recently played the course after about a 3 year hiatus. The course is in great shape, especially considering the recent substantial flooding that occurred in Ankeny. Any areas that were still damage were actively being repaired. Carts are great as is the GPS system. It is nice you can order food when your coming into the club house on 8 and 9 on the GPS system so it's ready to go when you get there. Club house is very nice and the bathrooms are clean. Had a great time, looking forward to returning.

A 4.4 review rating is far too low. I have driven by this course so many times driving between MPLS-DM and never thought about playing here. This summer for me was all about playing at courses I have never played. Also quality courses. I played down the road this summer numerous times at TCI and loved it. It wasn’t until recently when I was looking into the top public courses in Iowa that I read up on Otter Creek and discovered how highly rated and how well reviewed it was. I played it this week for the first time and I have to admit, after all of the reading my expectations were pretty loft…

There is a reason why this course is always so busy. Course is a 5 star without a doubt. Jack in the pro shop was excellent help. Cart guys were super nice. Definitely one of the best golf courses in Des Moines area.

Always enjoy coming out to golf at Otter Creek. Reasonably priced and pace of play is good. Course is well kept and club house is nice. Only recommendation is having the GPS show you where you can’t drive on a hole with a red line. I can get around the greens you have signs, but when you get near hazards/OB, other holes and such, it can get frustrating having to back up. I get having us not near those areas, but not having an idea of where you can/can’t go can get frustrating once you’re hit with the reverse needed function.

Curt and his team do a fantastic job managing this course. Course is always in fantastic shape. The service levels are top notch. The food at the Tin Cup is amazing! Its a must go to for golfers.

Excellent public golf course especially the layout, shot shaping required, and just a solid 18 holes overall

If you are going to have bunkers on your course, you should at least attempt to maintain them. These had not been touched since last weeks rains.
