In summary

Saranac Lake Golf Club is appreciated for its scenic setting, friendly staff, and affordable rates, offering a unique and enjoyable golfing experience with well-maintained greens and a challenging layout. However, the course does face criticism for its rough fairways and lack of irrigation, leading to dry and uneven conditions that can affect play. Despite these issues, many find it a fun and worthwhile course, particularly for those who appreciate classic golf architecture and a relaxed atmosphere.

Great affordable public golf, great pub up top in the clubhouse come with friendly wait staff. The course is not irrigated so some of the fairways are pretty rough at times, but the quality of the greens and the traps are second to none for the price. Some challenging holes but overall very playable.

Played this morning, 8/1/23. Had a great time. Is it dry in places? Sure. Is it rocky, rooty, with ups and downs all over? Sure. But what do you expect from an Adirondack course? There are 9 fun holes with gorgeous views and that distinct mountain air. What else do you need?

Beggars can’t be choosers. Not a great course but it’s the only one in town. The greens are really nice and it’s a fun course. The holes are close together and some of them are pretty tricky as there are lots of holes. Not too much water or sand. The view at the course is also beautiful with the mountains in the background. Best note is that the staff is super nice and friendly.

Top tier greens. It is a really unique and cool course design (lots of elevated or tucked away greens with tricky reads)… The fairways are a little rough, but this is perfect for a laid back, scenic, and tactically captivating round of golf. Couldn’t recommend more.

An early 1900s architectural gem. Green complexes are fabulous. Sharp fall-offs to grass or sand bunkers. Greens, for the most part, have lots of movement - including sections that slope significantly away from the direction of play. On holes 1-8 fairways are contoured such that a ball “hit down the middle” may end up in rough because of hard and fast fairways. This can result in blind shots to the pin. There’s at least one blind tee shot on a shortish par 4 with a small creek in front. The only clunker is #9 - a short par 4, completely flat. Fairway is wide, tee shot has no strategy whatsoev…

Great little course. Forgiving for beginners. It's a bit rough with no rain this summer. Price tag is more than last year.

How can you go wrong with $21 per person, 18 holes and includes the cart. Tony is an excellent person, very king and gracious, not to mention the vista!

Scenic course with beautiful views. The club house staff are professional and polite. The greens are very well kept for a public course. Challenging holes with a good mix of near and far. Slight water problems and dry ground, but it does not affect your game substantially. Great course for a quick 9 after work.

Quite possibly the worst conditions I've ever played. The fairways are basically dirt with patches of grass and lots of roots. Almost every shot was unplayable. The amount of roots and mounds made the course unbearable in the golf kart, my back was shot after 4 holes. The holes are also so close together you have to constantly be aware of errant shots coming for your head, God forbid someone doesn't yell fore your life could be over. It took over an hour to play 3 holes. The group behind me accidentally hit into me on holes 2 and 3 because they couldn't see me behind all the mounds. The woman…

Do not play here if you’re looking to get a round in. I thought because the reviews were on the higher side it would be a good course, it’s not. If you do for some reason come here except to play in puddles in some spots and dirt in others. There’s grass in a few spots, but not many. The bumps are unreal and kill your back.

The course is definitely a fun. I play here just about every weekend. It is very affordable and the hospitality is second to none. This is always my first choice when people ask me for a good golf to golf.
