In summary

Southern Hills Golf Club is frequently praised for its picturesque course layout with significant elevation changes, well-maintained greens, and friendly staff, making it a favorite among many golfers. The club's amenities, including a quality restaurant and accommodating event services, are also highlighted positively. However, some visitors have noted issues such as slow play and occasional fairway conditions, suggesting room for improvement in these areas.

Love this course. It’s a refreshing change from the typical flat Texas layout, with plenty of elevation changes that actually make you think through each shot. It honestly reminds me of some of the courses I’ve played in Colorado. The greens are in fantastic shape, the restaurant serves excellent food, and the staff couldn’t be friendlier. This place is absolutely beautiful... I think this is probably my new favorite East Texas course.

I was in town for a family reunion. My new to me cousin twisted my arm to go play golf on Saturday. Keep in mind I had already played different courses the prior two days. Man, am I glad I caved in to the peer pressure. This course is incredibly awesome. The course layout is picturesque with elevation changes on just about every hole. This is by far my new favorite track in East Texas.

Kathryn Coates did an amazing job at a recent wedding reception I coordinated at Tempest. Kathryn attended to every detail seamlessly & the food was amazing! Her staff served the guests above & beyond. And the limo golf cart send off was the icing on the cake! Thank you Kathryn & Tempest for making my job an easy one!

Course was in good shape, wind made it challenging today, greens rolled well but we're a little on the slow side (maybe still winter height?). Bev cart made plenty of stops. Only complaint would be the pro shop guy that checked us in. Seemed like it was a bother to take my money. Maybe just having a bad day, but no need to deduct a star.

I had been looking forward to playing this course for a long time. We made a big mistake going out after the last group of a big money tournament. One would think these scratch golfers would play fast. Nope. Our front 9 was 3 hours so most of us went home. The course was in great shape, although very wet making it more difficult. I do recommend the course but choose the day of play carefully. They should probably consider 10 minute tee time spacing. Greed is no excuse for slow play.

Beautiful course. We drove from Weatherford, so it was a good 2 and 1/2 hour drive. We played on a Saturday(11-21-20) at 10:18a. Course was busy but organized. Great starter and playing partners that helped us not knowing the course. The director of golf and gentleman in the pro shop let us play additional holes making our trip even more worthwhile. We appreciate it! They were setting up for a wedding that evening and that looked wonderful, too. 10/10 experience and 10/10 course conditions. Come play Tempest asap. Thanks!

I recently had the opportunity to play at Tempest Golf Course this past weekend, on 3-24-2024. While I found the greens to be adequate, I must express my disappointment with the condition of the fairways. They are severely eroded, with numerous brown dirt spots present throughout. The overall thinness of the fairways detracted significantly from the enjoyment of the game. Considering the current state of the course, I do not believe it justifies the price they are charging. I would recommend exploring alternative options, such as Pine Dunes Golf Course, which offers a superior experience for…

Rated as a top ten public course, for the ENTIRE state of Texas. Incredible course, everything you expect, and a true test of your skills. PGA type course and will humble any amateur golfer. I love playing this course a couple times a year, especially when I am playing other courses well, consistently. This course will let me know if it is a fluke or not. Driving range, incredible pro-shop, Military friendly, and great bar for a post round....well....round.

The entire course had a foul smell on 10/24/25. It was hard to even putt on some greens because the smell was so bad. It was a dead animal smell similar to catfish stinkbait, but it was strange that it was on the entire course. Other than that, the course was nice, but I could not get past the smell. I played twilight while passing through town. Nobody out there so I played 15 holes in 2 hours which was nice. Did you guys lay down some stinky mulch or is there a dump near by?

The event at the Tempest Golf Club was spectacular. Mrs Callie was so beautiful on her 80th birthday. The food was delicious. Look forward to another event there.

I can't say enough about this golf course. The staff was first class today! The food at the grille was the best I have ever had from a golf course restaurant. My wife is gluten free and she was able to enjoy her meal as well. They love Veterans here at Tempest! And then the Golf course was in great shape considering all the rain that Texas has had this Spring. I see guys in the reviews complaining about the dirt spots on the fairways. Just played Winstar on Monday. They are having the same issues. Get over it. Plenty of room to move your ball to relief for ground under repair. Greens were imma…
